The George Mason Patriots and the VCU Rams meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. George Mason is currently 12-8 overall. The Patriots beat Rhode Island in their last game. As for VCU, they’re 15-5 on the season following a Friday win over Richmond. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

George Mason Patriots

George Mason went 9-5 over their first 14 games, costing to Auburn, Boston College, Belmont, Buffalo and Old Dominion. The Patriots are 3-3 since then with losses to St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and George Washington.

On Saturday versus Rhode Island, George Mason posted a big 41-26 lead by halftime. The Patriots cruised on another 38 points from there and managed the win 79-72. Josh Oduro doubled up on 24 points and 14 rebounds.

VCU Rams

Over on the VCU side, they were 10-4 after 14 games with losses to Arizona State, Memphis, Temple and Jacksonville. The Rams have since gone 5-1, taking out Davidson, Loyola IL, Dayton, UMass and Richmond in their last quintet.

Matched up against Richmond on Friday, the Rams managed a 10-point edge by halftime. VCU kept it up with a 38-36 run in the second for a 74-62 win. Jamir Watkins managed a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with VCU. This one should be a fun matchup, though. The Rams are humming along well during this five-game win streak; they’ve hit 74 or more points in four of those games. VCU has only lost one game since December 7 (79-70 versus Duquesne on January 4), going 10-1 in that stretch. George Mason will certainly have their hands full. That said, I like the Patriots to hang around; their last three losses have each come by four points or fewer.
