Vermont vs Toledo 12/20/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Toledo Rockets and the Vermont Catamounts meet in college basketball action from the Patrick Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon.

The Toledo Rockets will look to rebound from a 100-85 loss to Marshall in their last game. JT Shumate leads Toledo in scoring with 19.6 PPG and 4.2 RPG while RayJ Dennis has 19.3 PPG with a team-high 6 APG to lead the Rockets in assists up to this point in the season.  Setric Millner Jr. has 13.6 PPG and a team-high 6.9 RPG to lead the Rockets on the glass to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Toledo up to this point in the year. As a team, Toledo is averaging 83.5 points per game on 47.5% shooting from the field, 36.9% from three point range and 75.2% from the foul line this season.

The Vermont Catamounts will be on the hunt for a 5th straight win after a 73-72 win over Colgate last time out. Aaron Deloney has leads Vermont in scoring with 12.3 PPG while Dylan Penn has 11.4 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Vermont up to this point in the year. Finn Sullivan has 8.6 PPG with 4.7 RPG and 2.6 APG and Robin Duncan has a team-high 6.8 RPG to lead Vermont in rebounding this season. As a team, Vermont is averaging 67.6 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 33.1% from three point range and 68.4% from the foul line this season.

Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 20-6 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games while the over is 9-1 in their last 10 games overall. Vermont is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a win while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600.

I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m going to back Vermont here. I like this Toledo team, but defense continues to be a major problem for the Rockets and while Vermont’s had their own issues for much of the season, a lot of those came on the road and the Catamounts finally get an opportunity to return home for a change, where they’ve covered in five straight going back to last year. It’ll be a tight one, close to the line, but I like Vermont here.
