West Virginia vs Baylor 1/11/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Baylor Bears and the West Virginia Mountaineers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from WVU Coliseum. Baylor stands at 10-5 so far this year. The Bears lost to Kansas State in their last game. As for West Virginia, they’re 10-5 as well after a loss to Kansas on Saturday. Baylor posted an 8-2 run through their first 10 games this year, losing to only Virginia and Marquette. The Bears are 2-3 over their last five outings with losses to Iowa State, TCU and Kansas State in their last trio.

On Saturday versus Kansas State, the Bears scored 47 points in the first half, 39 more in the second and nine in overtime only to come up short in a 97-95 loss. Adam Flagler led the way on 23 points and Keyonte George had 22 points.

Over on the West Virginia side, they were also 8-2 after 10 games with losses to Purdue and Xavier. The Mountaineers would then beat Buffalo and Stony Brook before losses to Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Kansas.

In the Saturday matchup versus Kansas, the Mountaineers were down 42-35 at halftime. West Virginia was outscored 34-27 from there and lost 76-62. Tre Mitchell topped the team on 15 points, and Erik Stevenson added 12 points.

PICK: I’m going to try Baylor here. This one’s a coin-flip proposition, though; both teams have been on similar paths this year and seem to be comparable. It’ll be a fun game to watch. That said, Baylor has been through a tough gauntlet of three ranked teams over their last trio. The Bears lost all three, but they’ve only fallen by a combined three points in the last pair. As for West Virginia, they’ve been fairly competitive over their own three-game losing streak but couldn’t do much with a tough Kansas squad on Saturday. I like this matchup to come down to the wire, with Baylor powering out the cover/win. Should be a great matchup.
