West Virginia vs Stanford Prediction 4/2/26 College Basketball Picks Today

The Stanford Cardinal and the West Virginia Mountaineers meet Thursday in College Basketball Crown tournament action from MGM Arena in Las Vegas. Here’s a West Virginia vs Stanford prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best West Virginia vs Stanford pick.

Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview

The Cardinal posted a 14-4 run over their first 18 games of the season, then began a five-game losing streak in mid-January versus Duke, California, Miami, Florida State and Clemson. Stanford closed out the regular season on a nice run at 6-2 with wins over Georgia Tech, Boston College, Pitt, SMU, Notre Dame and NC State, then took a tough loss to Pittsburgh in the first game of the conference tournament.

Matched up against Pitt back on March 10 in the first outing of the ACC Tournament, the Cardinal were in trouble at the break sporting a 31-23 deficit as they returned to the floor. In the second half Stanford got better on a 40-33 run and made a game of it. The end result was a 64-63 loss, though. Tops in scoring was Ebuka Okorie with 14 points, three boards and two assists in 35 minutes of work.

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview

Over on the West Virginia side, they opened the season on a 13-6 run then hit a 3-3 stretch over the next half-dozen outings with losses to Arizona, Baylor and Texas Tech. The Mountaineers finished off the regular season with a 3-4 stretch featuring losses to Utah, TCU, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. The first game of the conference tourney was a loss to BYU, giving WVU an 18-14 overall record.

Matched up against the Cougars back on March 11 in the Big 12 Tournament, the Mountaineers took a 31-23 deficit into the locker room at the break. In the second half West Virginia fell further behind on a 37-25 run and fell 68-48 in the end. Honor Huff posted 17 points with three steals, two assists and one rebound. Bremen Lorient added 11 points and seven boards in the losing effort.

West Virginia vs Stanford Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Stanford, though you could obviously call this one either way. The Cardinal had a good day on offense overall in their one-point loss to Pitt in the conference tournament, hitting 48.1 percent from the field. Stanford only got to the line six times though (making five). The 37-27 deficit on the boards and 44-32 disadvantage on points in the paint didn’t help matters, though. The Cardinal are 4-1 in their last five games, scoring 75 or more points in each win (and 85 or more in three of them).

As for WVU, they couldn’t keep pace with a good BYU team in their last outing, shooting just 38.1 percent from the field with 61.1 percent (11-of-18) at the line and a whopping 22 turnovers for 17 Cougars points. The Mountaineers also got beaten on the boards pretty badly 38-20. West Virginia is 2-5 in the last seven with fewer than 64 points scored in four of those losses. If this turns into a lower-scoring defensive game though, the Mountaineers have a great shot at a win. It’ll be a fun one.
