The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the West Virginia Mountaineers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Charleston Civic Center. Here’s a West Virginia vs Wake Forest prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best West Virginia vs Wake Forest pick.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview
The Deacons haven’t been playing too badly this year, but they’ve got a few blemishes on the schedule against some tough teams. Wake Forest went 3-2 in their first five games of the year, losing to Michigan and Texas Tech among wins versus American, Morehead State and UMass Lowell. The Deacons would win the next three outings versus Memphis, Campbell and Northeastern but would then fall versus Oklahoma. In total over nine games that gives the Deacons a 6-3 overall record.
Back on Tuesday versus Oklahoma, the Deacons came out of the locker room staring at a two-point deficit. Wake Forest didn’t get any closer than that on a 49-33 run from there however, leading to an 86-68 loss in the end. Leading the scoring was Juke Harris with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Nate Calmese put up 13 points and four assists in the losing effort for the Demon Deacons.
West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview
Over on the West Virginia side, they posted a couple of losses in their first month of play this year. The Mountaineers came out of the gate on a great run though, taking out Mount St. Mary’s, Campbell, Lehigh, Pitt and Lafayette in succession. Losses to Clemson and Xavier ensued over the next pair, then another win in blowout fashion over Mercyhurst. That would give WVU a 6-2 record across their first eight games of the season.
On Wednesday versus Coppin State, the Mountaineers didn’t have too many issues and rolled to a blowout win 91-49 at WVU Coliseum. West Virginia’s Honor Huff led the team with 17 points and three rebounds while Chance Moore had 17 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Bremen Lorient added 12 points with four rebounds and two assists in the winning effort as well.

West Virginia vs Wake Forest Prediction
I’ll likely try taking a stab on Wake Forest here. The Deacons need to bounce back after a rough shooting (and rebounding) outing versus a good Oklahoma team in their last matchup, though. Wake shot just 33.9 percent from the field and 8-of-30 (26.7 percent) from the line in that one while getting outmuscled on the boards 39-22 and in the paint 30-20. The Demon Deacons had a pretty good first half though, and ended up doing well at the line on 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) overall. Wake Forest has hit 68 or more points in every game so far this season, and they’ve only been below 70 points twice in nine games.
As for West Virginia, they demolished an overmatched Coppin State team in their last outing, hitting 47 percent from the field with a 45-36 rebounding advantage and just seven turnovers. WVU was just 20-of-33 from the line though (61 percent), so it wasn’t perfect. Still, the Mountaineers have hit 67 or more points in all nine of their games so far, with 69 or more in each of their wins. They’re scoring well overall.
