The Vermont Catamounts and the Yale Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Tuesday night.
The Vermont Catamounts will try to bounce back after a 71-50 loss to Iona in their last game. Dylan Penn leads Vermont in scoring with 13.8 PPG while Aaron Deloney has 11.4 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Vermont up to this point in the year. Finn Sullivan has 9.8 PPG with 5.4 RPG and 2.4 APG and Robin Duncan has team-highs of 6.6 RPG and 2.6 APG to lead Vermont in rebounding and assists this season. As a team, Vermont is averaging 65 PPG on 43.1% shooting from the field, 32.2% from three and 65.8% from the foul line this season.
The Yale Bulldogs will look to build on their 5-0 mark after a 112-55 win over subdivision John Jay College last time out. Matt Knowling has 19.8 PPG and 4.6 RPG as the lone double-digit scorer for Yale up to this point in the year while John Poulakidas has 9.6 PPG this season. Isaiah Kelly has a team-high 4.8 RPG to lead Yale in rebounding while Bez Mbeng has a team-high 4.8 APG to lead the Bulldogs in the assist department. As a team, Yale is averaging 84.8 PPG on 51.3% shooting from the field, 34.9% from three and 65.9% from the foul line this season.
Vermont is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Yale is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 12-2 in their last 14 games overall.
I get the reasoning for backing either side in this game, but the thing for me here is that while Vermont will likely run the table in conference play again this season, they haven’t been overly strong out of the gate this time around, and I understand that they’ve had a tough schedule to this point but you still have to execute and the shots just haven’t been falling for Vermont like we’re used to seeing. Yale is an experienced team and they looked really good in dispatching anyone in front of them in the tournament in Hawaii this past week. I’ll side with Yale here.
