The UAB Blazers and the Charlotte 49ers meet Saturday in college football action from Jerry Richardson Stadium. Here’s a Charlotte vs UAB prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Charlotte vs UAB pick.
UAB Blazers Betting Preview
The Blazers kicked off the season with a win over Alcorn State, then fell to LA-Monroe, Arkansas, Navy, Tulane, Army and South Florida before a victory versus Tulsa. UAB would lose their next pair to UConn and Memphis, however.
Matched up against Rice on Saturday, the Blazers took a 27-14 edge into the locker room. After 13 more fourth-quarter points UAB had a 40-14 blowout win. Jalen Kitna put up 174 yards and two scores, while Lee Beebe led the rush on 16 carries for 161 yards and two TDs.
Charlotte 49ers Betting Preview
Over on the Charlotte side, they lost their first two games to James Madison and North Carolina before a win over Gardner-Webb. The 49ers would go just 2-5 over the next seven with losses to Indiana, Navy, Memphis, Tulane and South Florida.
In their Saturday game against FAU, the 49ers went back and forth in a game featuring scoring in every quarter from both sides. In the end Charlotte had a 39-27 win, though. DeShawn Purdie put up 396 yards, three scores and an interception. O’Mega Blake led the receivers with a whopping 205 yards and three TDs on five grabs.
Charlotte vs UAB Prediction
I’ll stick with UAB, but I’m probably not touching this one. The Blazers posted 11 penalties for 110 yards alongside a middling 4-of-10 on third-down tries in their blowout win over Rice, but otherwise looked pretty good. The UAB defense came away with four takeaways but did give up a decent 337-yard total (222 passing) to the Owls. The Blazers needed a good showing after mustering 23 or fewer points in consecutive games prior to that.
As for Charlotte, they didn’t play too badly themselves against a struggling FAU team despite giving up a whopping 279 rush yards and 6.3 yards per play. The Niners passing game was on point (396 yards), and they’ve now put up 24 or more points in three of the last four. That said, Charlotte does give up a ton of points on the other side so UAB should have some open avenues to the end zone here.
