Southern Miss went 2-2 over their first four games this year, losing to Liberty and Miami-FL before wins over Northwest State and Tulane. The Eagles then hit a 3-1 run with a loss to Troy and wins versus Arkansas State, Texas State and Louisiana.

In Saturday’s matchup versus Georgia State, the Eagles were down 28-0 going into the third quarter. Things didn’t get much better from there in a 42-14 loss. QB Trey Lowe had 84 yards and a score, while Frank Gore Jr. led the rush with 11 carries for 87 yards and a TD.

Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they won their first six games this year versus Army, Gardner-Webb, Buffalo, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and LA-Monroe. The Chanticleers then lost to Old Dominion before beating Marshall.

In last Thursday’s matchup versus App State, the Chanticleers were up 21-14 heading into the final quarter. Coastal Carolina was able to hang on from there in a 35-28 win. QB Grayson McCall put up 253 yards with two scores, and Jared Brown rushed three times for 84 yards and a TD.

The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 overall. Southern Miss is 5-2 ATS in their last seven in November.

Meanwhile, the Chanticleers are 2-5 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 at home. Coastal is 2-8-1 ATS in the last 11 on grass.

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers did a pretty good job versus App State in their last game, posting 476 total yards (192 rushing), 23 first downs, 37:56 in time of possession and 9-of-15 on third-down tries. It was Coastal’s highest points total since September 22 (41).

As for Southern Miss, they looked bad versus a mediocre Georgia State team over the weekend, putting up just 202 total yards, 16 first downs, two turnovers and 2-of-14 on third-down tries. It would be a huge turnaround for the team to be competitive here.
