The Huskies got the unenviable opener matchup on the road versus Iowa this year. Northern Illinois was blasted 33-0 in the first half and things didn’t get any better from there in an eventual 40-0 blowout loss. As for game two, the Huskies took on Illinois State. Northern Illinois traded punches for most of the first half in that one, then eventually fell 28-24 in a tough home result.
Last weekend versus Arizona, the Huskies came out of the first quarter with a somewhat surprising 10-7 lead. That lead quickly evaporated after 21 Wildcats points in the second quarter however, and NIU ended up losing 42-17 as the game would down. Quarterback Taron Dickens was 25-of-37 for 228 yards and a score while Telly Johnson had 12 totes for 69 yards.
Georgia State Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the Georgia State side, they kicked off the season with a pretty routine matchup versus NC A&T. The Panthers scored 21 points in the second quarter and 24 more in the third on the way to a rousing blowout win 59-10. In game two, the Panthers took on Kennesaw State. Georgia State was up 21-3 by the end of the first half, then added another 10 points on the way to a 21-7 win.
Matched up against Central Florida in game three, the Panthers went into the second half with a 24-20 edge. Georgia State could only muster a couple of field goals from there however, and fell 44-30 in the end. QB Cameran Brown was 30-of-47 for 282 yards, two scores and two picks. Qwantavius Wiggins added 11 carries for 125 yards and a score in the losing effort.

I’ll stick with Georgia State but I’m probably avoiding this one. The Panthers didn’t play too badly in their loss to UCF last weekend outside of one key spot: run defense. Georgia State gave up a whopping 304 yards on the ground, which resulted in 6.8 yards per play for the Knights. The Panthers notched 485 yards (203 rushing) and 25 first downs themselves but the three interceptions really hurt.
As for NIU, they gave up 441 yards (357 passing), 7.0 yards per play, 22 first downs and 8-of-11 on third-down tries in their loss to Arizona. The Huskies posted a tepid 6-of-16 on third downs themselves along with 341 yards total (255 passing). Northern Illinois can be very competitive here if they can clean up a few things.
