Oklahoma had a bit of a scare versus a pesky Tulane team in their opener this year, but ultimately pulled out a 40-35 win. After a 76-0 beatdown of Western Carolina in game two, the Sooners had to rally to get past Nebraska 23-16 in their third game.
Oklahoma played West Virginia in their last matchup. In that one the Sooners scored six points in the fourth quarter to power out a 16-13 win. QB Spencer Rattler put up 256 yards with a TD and a pick, and Michael Woods led the receivers with 86 yards on eight grabs.
Over on the Kansas State side, they bagged a 24-7 win over Stanford in their first game of the season, then took out Southern Illinois 31-23 on September 11. The Wildcats then kept it going with a 38-17 win over Nevada in game three.
Last weekend versus Oklahoma State, Kansas State coughed up 31 points in the first half on the way to a rough 31-20 defeat. Jaren Lewis finished 10-of-19 with 148 yards, a TD and a pick. Deuce Vaughn caught five balls for 73 yards and a score as well.
The Sooners are 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf. Oklahoma is also 6-2 ATS in their last eight conference games.
Meanwhile, Kansas State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 conference games. The Wildcats are 17-8 ATS in their last 25 overall as well.
PICK: I’m going to go with Oklahoma. Both these teams need better showings than last weekend, though. The Sooners held a persistent West Virginia team to 226 total yards with 3.6 yards per play and 18 first downs, but couldn’t really establish an offensive rhythm of their own.
As for the Wildcats, they were in trouble after just one quarter last weekend and ended up giving out 481 total yards to the Cowboys while notching just 260 themselves. Kansas State is going to need to go back to the proverbial drawing board and find a better game plan for this matchup.
