The Kent State Golden Flashes meet the Buffalo Bulls Saturday in Week 6 MAC college football action from Dix Stadium. The Bulls just finished up a matchup versus Western Michigan. In that one Buffalo ended up losing by a touchdown. As for the Flashes, they played Bowling Green in their last outing. Kent State bagged a seven-point win there. Buffalo had no issues versus Wagner in their opener this year, cruising to a 69-7 win. The Bulls stumbled in their next two outings however, falling to Nebraska 28-3 and Coastal Carolina 28-25. Buffalo bounced back in week four with a 35-34 win over Old Dominion to get back to .500 on the year.

On Saturday versus Western Michigan, the Bulls had a 10-7 lead going into the final quarter but ended up falling 24-17. QB Kyle Vantrease put up 151 yards on 12-of-22 passing, and Ron Cook logged three carries for 56 yards and a score to lead the rushers.

Over on the Flashes’ side, they got a tough draw in their opener versus Texas A&M and fell 41-10. Kent State would then destroy VMI 60-10 before a pair of big losses. Those defeats came 30-7 against Iowa and 37-16 against Maryland.

In game five versus Bowling Green, the Golden Flashes scored in every quarter during a solid 27-20 win. QB Dustin Crum put up 134 yards on 15-of-38 passing, but Marquez Cooper carried the offense with 120 yards and two scores from 31 carries.

The Bulls are 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight in October and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after a loss. Buffalo is also 14-5-1 ATS in the last 20 overall.

Meanwhile, the Flashes are 8-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games. Kent State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home.

PICK: I’m going to try Buffalo here. The Bulls played a pretty good Western Michigan team last weekend, giving up 457 yards with 29 first downs and 82 total plays. Buffalo only had 15 first downs themselves and their offense hardly saw the field. They’ll certainly have some adjustments to make on defense coming into this one.

As for Kent State, they had a great day rushing against Bowling Green with 262 ground yard. The Flashes were 10-of-19 on third downs but committed nine penalties that certainly didn’t help matters. It’ll be interesting to see how these teams match up, so I’m probably staying away from this one.
