Marshall vs Appalachian State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Marshall but it’s close. The Herd didn’t look great in their latest loss to Georgia Southern over the weekend. Marshall put up 412 yards on offense with 250 rushing yards but also had a couple of turnovers and went just 4-of-13 on third downs. The defense gave up 21 first downs and 454 yards to the Eagles without a takeaway. Marshall has been below 22 points in three of their last four games so they’re going to need to push the issue on the scoreboard quickly here.

As for App State, they had a pretty rough offensive day in their latest loss to a decent Georgia State team. The Mountaineers posted 356 yards with 18 first downs but went just 3-of-10 on third-down tries and coughed up three turnovers. The defense gave up 380 yards and 20 first downs on the other side without a takeaway. App State has lost consecutive games now and four of the last six. They’ve surrendered 31 or more points in three of the last four, so Marshall shouldn’t have a ton of trouble finding points in this one if all goes well.

App State Mountaineers Betting Preview

The Mountaineers came out of the gate on a strong run but they’ve been pretty choppy since then record-wise. App State took out Maine, East Carolina and Charlotte in their first three outings then fell to NC State and Old Dominion in the next pair. Consecutive wins over Coastal Carolina and James Madison came next, then another loss versus Georgia Southern. Over the first eight games of the year that gave App State a 5-3 run.

On Saturday versus Georgia State, App State managed a touchdown in the second quarter to briefly go up 14-13 but then gave up a couple more scores for a 26-14 halftime deficit. The Mountaineers’ comeback hopes fell short in the end during a 39-23 defeat. QB Malachi Singleton was 23-of-34 for 241 yards, two scores and a pick. Jaquari Lewis had eight carries for 31 yards and Chris Lofton caught six balls for 117 yards and a TD.

Marshall Thundering Herd Betting Preview

Over on the Marshall side, they were able to manage a 3-1 run in their first four outings. The Herd lost to Penn State in the opener then took out Middle Tennessee, Missouri State and Gardner-Webb in succession. Marshall lost to James Madison and Coastal Carolina in the next pair ahead of two more wins versus South Alabama and Old Dominion. that would give the Herd a 5-3 record in their first eight games as well.

Matched up against Georgia Southern last weekend the Herd gave up three touchdowns in the first half and went into the break down 21-7. Marshall would then cough up another four trips to the end zone and limped to the finish line 49-13 for a blowout road loss. QB Zion Turner finished with an 11-of-26 line for 141 yards and two interceptions. Jo’Shon Barbie had 12 carries for 83 yards and a TD, while Owen Sweeney led the receivers on four catches for 46 yards in the defeat.
