Northwestern vs Indiana State 9/11/21 College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Northwestern Wildcats meet the Indiana State Sycamores in week 2 college football action from Ryan Field on Saturday.

The Indiana State Sycamores will look to build off of a season-opening 26-21 win over Eastern Illinois last time out. Anthony Thompson threw for 87 yards on 13 of 23 passing while Peterson Kerlegrand had 73 rushing yards with a score and Michael Haupert had 59 rushing yards with a score for ISU as well in the win. Dante Hendrix led the Sycamores’ receiving group with 52 receiving yards coming on 5 grabs while Rontrez Morgan had a team-high 6 receptions for 26 yards. Michael Thomas also recorded a pair of interceptions on the defensive end for Indiana State in the win.

The Northwestern Wildcats will be out to rebound from a season-opening 38-21 loss at the hands of Michigan State last time out. Hunter Johnson threw for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns on 30 of 42 passing while Evan Hull led the Wildcats in rushing with 9 carries for 87 yards. Bryce Kirtz led the Wildcats’ receiving corps with 7 receptions for 80 yards while Stephon Robinson Jr. had 5 ctaches for 79 yards with a score and Trey Pugh had 3 grabs for 13 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Chris Bergin led the Wildcats with 10 total tackles including a team-high 8 solo tackles while combining with Samdup Miller for one sack and Jeremy Meiser added a sack of his own in the loss.

Indiana State is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games played in September while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Northwestern is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 week 2 matchups while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 Saturday games.

Northwestern really let me down in that Michigan State game as I just thought that the Wildcats would come out strong and they really looked flat against a Michigan State team that I’m down on early this season. However, Indiana State’s just not built to compete with a team of Northwestern’s calibre, and I think that the Sycamores could be in for a long day in this one. Give me the Wildcats and lay the points here.
