Why the Michigan Wolverines will win

  • Northwestern has lost each of its last 13 games against AP-ranked teams.
  • Michigan has won 42 of its last 44 games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Michigan has covered the spread in seven of its last eight road games in November.
  • Northwestern has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five games against teams from Michigan.
  • Michigan has won the first quarter in each of its last three games against conference opponents.
  • Northwestern has lost the first half in seven of its last nine games against conference opponents.

Total Points Facts

  • Eight of Michigan’s last nine road games against non-AP-ranked teams have gone OVER the total points line.
  • Five of Northwestern’s last six home games against conference opponents have gone UNDER the total points line.

  • Northwestern ranks 119th among FBS teams for passing yards per game this season (169.9).
  • Michigan ranks 136th among FBS teams for 4th down conversion percentage this season (20.0).

Northwestern vs Michigan Prediction

Michigan comes into this matchup ranked in the top 25 and they are on a three game winning streak, but they have had some issues on the road. The Wolverines have losses to USC and Oklahoma on the road, and they were very sloppy in their road win against Michigan State. Northwestern has lost two games in a row and they have allowed 38 and 28 points in both of those games. The Wildcats actually have a decent defense, but their offense is very low scoring and is going to run into some trouble here. I don’t love to back Michigan on the road, but I think they will shut down the NW offense. Take the Wolverines to cover here.
