The Oklahoma Sooners meet the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Saturday in Week 4 Big 12 college football action from OU Memorial Stadium in Norman. Kick-off is at 7:30p Eastern. West Virginia is coming off a matchup versus Virginia Tech. In that game, the Mountaineers bagged a nice six-point victory. As for the Sooners, they played Nebraska in their last game. West Virginia had some trouble with Maryland in their opener, scoring just three points in the second half during a tough 30-24 defeat. Week two against LIU went much better for the Mountaineers, however. West Virginia posted a runaway 66-0 blowout in that one.
In the week three matchup versus Virginia Tech, the Mountaineers put up 24 first-half points in an eventual 27-21 win. QB Jarret Doege had 193 yards with two scores and a pick, while Leddie Brown led the rush on 19 carries, 161 yards and a touchdown.
Over on the Oklahoma side, they were outscored 21-3 by a pesky Tulane team during the second half of their opener, but 23 second-quarter points helped on the way to a 40-35 win. In game two the Sooners posted a dominant 76-0 win over Western Carolina to keep it going.
Last weekend versus Nebraska, Oklahoma had just seven points in the first half but held on for an eventual 23-16 win. QB Spencer Rattler had 214 yards with a TD, and Eric Gray had 84 yards on 15 carries to lead the rush.
The Mountaineers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 in September and 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games. West Virginia is also 5-12 ATS in their last 17 on grass.
Meanwhile, the Sooners are 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games and 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Oklahoma is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall as well.
PICK: I’m going to go with West Virginia. The Mountaineers put together a nice game versus Virginia Tech in their last outing, posting 180 rushing yards with a 6.2-yard average per play. West Virginia did give up a couple of turnovers however, and also committed nine penalties.
As for Oklahoma, it took them a while to get going versus Nebraska but they would finish with 408 total yards and 21 first downs. The Sooners went 6-of-11 on third downs and had zero turnovers. This weekend’s matchup should be a pretty good one, but I like West Virginia to keep it going and cover.
