Last year was something of an odd one for the RedHawks, and overall a disappointment. Miami-OH managed to go 7-7 in the win/loss column but did notch a 6-2 run in the Mid-American Conference. That record would put the team in second place among the standings. In the conference championship versus Western Michigan however, the RedHawks took a 23-13 loss ahead of an Arizona Bowl loss 18-3 versus Fresno State.
This will be RedHawks head coach Chuck Martin’s 13th season at the helm, and he brings an experienced coaching staff along with him. They’ll have high expectations on their shoulders, as Miami-OH is the pick for the MAC title among most pundits. If they can make it back to the MAC Championship Game, it’ll be the fourth time in a row that the team has accomplished that feat. 14 returning starters (eight on defense) will help make that dream a reality.
Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the Panthers’ side, they had a pretty good year overall in 2025 but couldn’t get near the top of the mountain in a tough ACC. Pittsburgh bagged an 8-5 record in total along with a 6-2 run in the conference. The Panthers were behind Virginia, Duke, Miami, Georgia Tech and SMU in the standings though, despite four of those teams having the same record. Pitt ended the season on a down note with a Military Bowl loss to East Carolina 23-17.
Looking ahead to the 2026 campaign, Pittsburgh will retain head coach Pat Narduzzi in his 13th season, along with new defensive coordinator Cory Sanders. On offense the team will be guided by sophomore QB Mason Heintschel after 2,354 yards and 16 scores last season. He’ll have Ja’Kyrian Turner at RB and an experienced line around him, setting the pieces for an explosive year.

Pittsburgh vs Miami-OH Prediction
I’ll stick with Pitt, but you could make a case either way. Both these teams have some pretty high expectations going into the season and this matchup will give us our first glimpse at what we can expect moving forward. The Panthers’ main question mark will be their defense and whether or not they can get going quickly under Sanders. Pittsburgh’s schedule isn’t easy though, as they’ve got road games against Miami, Louisville and California on the slate—not to mention home games versus Georgia Tech and Florida State.
As for Miami-OH, they’re looking pretty good on paper heading into the season. The RedHawks will have a stellar offensive line that should help bolster the run game. That said, the team lost their top two receivers in the offseason and they need a few playmakers to step up. Overall though, I think things are looking pretty promising for Miami-OH. This opener will be a great early test.
