The Demon Deacons didn’t have too bad of a season last year all things considered. Wake Forest managed to go 9-4 overall with a 4-4 run in a competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. The Deacons landed near the middle of the pack with that effort, and earned a trip to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Wake took out Mississippi State in that one 43-29.
Last Thursday versus Akron in their first game of the season, Wake Forest was up 28-3 by halftime. After scoring in every quarter the Deacons had a 38-16 win. QB Gio Lopez had a 21-of-32 line for 350 yards and three scores while Ty Clark led the rush on 105 yards from seven totes. Carlos Hernandez had five catches for 165 yards and a touchdown of his own.
Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview
Over on the Purdue side, they didn’t fare so well last season and were lost among a tough Big Ten. The Boilermakers went just 2-10 overall with a futile 0-9 run in conference play. That left Purdue in dead last place behind Michigan State in the standings. The Boilermakers finished things off with a 10-game losing streak after two victories to start the year.
Purdue got started this year with a matchup versus Indiana State. The Boilermakers didn’t have too many issues there, cruising to a 44-19 win with points in every quarter. Quarterback Ryan Browne had 317 yards and three scores off 23-of-39 passing and Fame Ijeboi had 87 yards and a score on 11 carries. Assad Waseem added six catches for 107 yards and a score.

Purdue vs Wake Forest Prediction
I’ll just stay with Purdue. The Boilermakers were pretty impressive in their debut win versus an overmatched Indiana State team, rolling to 523 total yards (346 passing), 7.1 yards per play, 28 first downs and no turnovers. The defense gave up just 12 first downs and 4-of-12 on third-down conversion attempts. It was a nice warmup game for the Boilermakers, but they’ve still got to watch the penalties (nine for 85 yards).
As for Wake Forest, they also looked good in their opener versus Akron—and also need to watch the penalties (11 for 115 yards). The Deacons posted 559 yards (356 passing) with 8.2 yards per play and 20 first downs in their win, giving up just 6-of-14 on third downs to the Zips. This weekend will be a much tougher challenge though, and I like Purdue to take care of business.
