The Texas State Bobcats and Appalachian State Mountaineers do battle Saturday in a week 6 Sun Belt college football game from Bobcat Stadium.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers will look to build on their 49-0 win over the Citadel last time out to climb to 3-2 on the year. Chase Brice has thrown for 1,279 yards, 15 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 62.3% passing while Camerun Peoples has a team-high 366 rushing yards and Daetrich Harrington and Nate Noel have combined for 312 rushing yards this season. Christan Horn has a team-high 344 receiving yards while Dashaun Davis and Kaedin Robinson each have 200+ receiving yards this season for App State’s receiving group. On defense, Nick has a team-high 34 total tackles while Nick Hampton has 5 sacks and Dexter Lawson Jr. has a pair of interceptions.
The Texas State Bobcats will hope to bounce back and find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their first five games after a 40-13 loss to James Madison to drop to 2-3 on the year. Layne Hatcher has thrown for 1,207 yards, 11 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 60.8% passing while Calvin Hill leads the Bobcats with 308 rushing yards and Lincoln Pare has 212 rushing yards as well this season. Ashtyn Hawkins leads Texas State’s receiving group with 37 grabs for 332 yards and 5 touchdowns while four other receivers have at least 100 receiving yards this season. On defense, Levi Bell has a team-high 3.5 sacks and Kordell Rodgers has 4 INTs this season.
Appalachian State is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 road games against a team with a losing home record. Texas State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games.
I get the case to be made for a home underdog in certain spots, but the problem here is that the Texas State Bobcats are not a good football team. Appalachian State has played in a ton of close games this season, but everyone that’s challenged the Mountaineers in those games have been far better than whatever Texas State is bringing to the table. I just don’t see the Bobcats being able to hang with the Mountaineers offensively in this game, so give me App State laying the points on the road here.
