Texas vs Oklahoma State 10/16/21 College Football Picks and Predictions

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma State Cowboys square off Saturday afternoon in a week 7 Big 12 college football game from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Cowboys are fresh off a bye week. OK State last played Baylor in an eventual 10-point win. As for Texas, they played Oklahoma in their last outing. In that one, the Longhorns took a rough seven-point defeat. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.

Oklahoma State has opened up the season well despite a couple of close calls. The Cowboys are 5-0 so far. They’ve taken wins over Missouri State 23-16, Tulsa 28-23, Boise State 21-20, Kansas State 31-20 and Baylor 24-14 thus far in succession.

In the victory over Baylor on October 2, the Cowboys were outscored 14-10 in the second half but still were able to hang on. QB Spencer Sanders finished with 182 yards, one TD and three interceptions. Jaylen Warren added 125 yards with two scores on 36 carries as well.

Over on the Texas side, they kicked off the year with a 38-18 win over Louisiana but then fell 40-21 to Arkansas in their second outing. The Longhorns recovered from there to take out Rice 58-0 then Texas Tech 70-35 and TCU 32-27.

Last weekend versus Oklahoma, Texas had the Sooners down 38-20 at the break but then coughed up 25 fourth-quarter points on the way to a 55-48 defeat. QB Casey Thompson put up 388 yards with five touchdowns, and Bijan Robinson led the rushers on 137 yards and a TD.

The Cowboys are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. OK State is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns are 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf and 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall. Texas is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight in October as well.

PICK: I’m going to try Oklahoma State here. The Cowboys have been impressive so far, and they’ve shown resilience against some pretty good teams. In the Baylor game, OK State put up 401 yards of total offense (219 on the ground) with 24 first downs and a solid 10-of-21 mark on third- and fourth-down tries. The three interceptions were really the only glaring statistical mistake.

As for Texas, they very well should have beaten a great Oklahoma team in their last outing. The Longhorns gave up a truckload of offense to the Sooners however, including 662 total yards, 26 first downs and 8.2 yards per play. I like this one to be another high-scoring affair with the Cowboys eking into a cover.
