Toledo vs UMass Prediction

I’ll take a stab on UMass. This should be a pretty fun matchup if both teams play to their capabilities. The Minutemen are coming off a tight overtime victory over Ball State last week, posting 23 first downs with 455 total yards on offense. UMass went 4-of-10 on third-down tries and had a couple of lost fumbles but still powered out the victory by one point. On defense the Minutemen gave up 18 first downs, 182 yards and a pretty solid 6-of-14 on third downs but didn’t have any takeaways. UMass had scored fewer than 20 points in four straight games (all losses) prior to their 31 points in the victory.

As for Toledo, they eked out a victory versus a struggling team in their last outing as well. The Rockets dispatched Sacramento State by three points, giving up just 12 first downs, 216 total yards and 4-of-15 on third downs. Toledo wasn’t spectacular offensively themselves with just 5-of-15 on third downs and 17 first downs but they got the job done. These teams should match up well together and it’ll be a fun one to watch.

UMass Minutemen Betting Preview

The Minutemen kicked things off this year with a nice 4-0 run. Those victories came courtesy of Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Stonehill and Sacramento State in succession. UMass then hit a four-game losing streak that knocked them back to .500 on the season. Those losses were versus Eastern Michigan, Miami-OH, Buffalo and UConn. Last Wednesday, the Minutemen managed to power out a tight win over Ball State and get back over the .500 mark at 5-4 overall this year.

In the Ball State game last week the Minutemen were able to post a couple of touchdowns in the second quarter on the way to a 14-10 halftime edge. UMass gave up a late TD in the fourth quarter and had to go to overtime in order to settle an eventual 31-30 victory. QB William Watson put up a 17-of-25 line for 302 yards and a TD, while Curtis Kimmons led the rush on 19 carries for 85 yards. Tops in receiving was Kezion Dia-Johnson with three grabs for 97 yards in the winning effort for the Minutemen.

Toledo Rockets Betting Preview

Over on the Toledo side, they lost their opener matchup versus Michigan State, but then bounced back with a four-game win streak over Central Connecticut, Temple, San Diego State and Ball State. The Rockets would then lose to Buffalo before hitting another win streak. Those victories have come courtesy of Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Sacramento State. Over nine games so far that gives Toledo a 7-2 overall run.

Matched up against Sac State last Wednesday the Rockets gave up 10 unanswered points to go into the break on a 10-7 deficit. Toledo held the Hornets blank in the second half until a late TD, eventually hanging on for a nice 20-17 victory on the road. QB John Alan Richter was 9-of-17 for 60 yards, one TD and one pick. CJ Miller rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries, and Autavius Ison had 15 totes for 101 yards and a touchdown in the victory effort.
