San Jose State Spartans
The Spartans kicked off the year with an unenviable matchup against USC, and things went about as expected in a 56-28 defeat. Ditto for game two against a very good Oregon State team. San Jose State ended up losing that one 42-17 in another blowout. QB Chevan Cordiero finished with 143 yards on 18-of-32 passing during the defeat.
In game three versus Cal Poly, the Spartans scored 21 points in both the second and third quarters during a 59-3 win. Cordiero had 205 yards with two scores, and Kairee Robinson had 124 rush yards with two touchdowns.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to take a stab on Toledo. The Rockets didn’t get a win in their opener versus Illinois, but they still came out looking like the better team. Toledo had 416 total yards with 28 first downs and just one turnover in that one. The Rockets defense held Illinois to 374 total yards on the other side and just 3-of-9 on third-down tries. Illinois’ 10 penalties didn’t help matters, but they still won. Last weekend versus Texas Southern, Toledo dominated on offense, posting 549 total yards (371 passing), 7.3 yards per play, 34 first downs and an amazing 10-of-12 rate on third-down tries. San Jose State will be a tougher opponent but I still like the Rockets to keep it rolling.
