The UMass Minutemen and UConn Huskies do battle in a week 6 college football contest from McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Hadley on Saturday.
The UConn Huskies will be out to grab their first win after a narrow 30-28 loss to Vanderbilt last time out. Steven Krajewski, Tyler Phommachanh and Jack Zergiotis have been a revolving committee at QB for the Huskies while Nathan Carter leads UConn with 264 rushing yards and Keelan Marion has a team-high 202 receiving yards for the Huskies this season. On defense, Jackson Mitchell leads the Huskies with 59 total tackles in addition to his 1.5 sacks while Travis Jones has a pair of sacks this season.
The UMass Minutemen will try to bounce back from a 45-7 loss to Toledo in their last game. Brady Olson’s thrown for 686 yards, 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 52.7% passing while Ellis Merriweather leads the Minutemen with 244 rushing yards. Rico Arnold leads the UMass receiving corps with 15 catches for 225 yards. On defense, Da’Shon Ross leads the team with 42 total tackles with a sack this season.
UConn is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record and 15-34-2 ATS in their last 51 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a road favorite. UMass is 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games as an underdog and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 games following a double-digit loss at home.
I’m always here to talk if you feel the need to bet this game. You have two winless teams that are among the two worst teams in all of the FBS, and that’s not going to change over the course of one game. With that said, I’m leaning towards UConn here. Their head coach is retiring at the end of the season and you’d have to think that the players don’t want the guy to go out on a winless eason and this is their best chance the rest of the way to nab a win. I don’t like UConn, but I like UMass even less.
