Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview
The Beavers’ first matchup of the year was a tough one on the road against Houston. Oregon State didn’t play too badly, and actually kept pace with the Cougars in the second half. It was still a 33-20 loss, though. In game two, Oregon State took on Texas Tech in another tough draw. The Beavers were tied up 21-21 going into the fourth quarter but ended up losing 35-24 in the end.
Last weekend versus Montana, Oregon State didn’t have too many problems. The Beavers were up 35-3 by the end of the first half, then added 17 more points from there along the way to a 52-17 blowout win at home. QB Braden Atkinson was 22-of-30 for 333 yards and five touchdowns. Jesse Legree caught four balls for 100 yards and a touchdown.
UTEP Miners Betting Preview
Over on the UTEP side, they got off to a tough start themselves with a road game versus Oklahoma. That one went just about how you might expect, with the Miners giving up 21 points in the first quarter during a 51-0 blowout loss. In game two versus Texas Southern, UTEP managed to get their first win of the season. The Miners took that one 51-10 in dominant fashion.
Matched up against Michigan last weekend, the Miners actually had a lead 7-0 coming out of the first quarter and only trailed by three at the half. UTEP could only find a fourth-quarter field goal from there however, and ended up losing big 52-17 on the road. EJ Colson was 7-of-9 for 86 yards, two scores and a pick. Tavorus Jones added nine carries for 34 yards in the defeat.

I’ll lean toward Oregon State. The Beavers were able to hang 510 yards (366 passing) on Montana in their latest win, adding 7.5 yards per play and 28 first downs. Oregon State’s D gave up 338 yards on the other side (242 passing) with 22 first downs but also notched just 4-of-14 allowed on third downs and a couple of takeaways. This should be another manageable matchup if all goes well.
As for UTEP, things went pretty much as we expected against Michigan: 150 total yards (93 passing), nine first downs and 2-of-12 on third-down tries. The Miners gave up 431 yards and 27 first downs defensively but did bag a couple of fumble recoveries. I could see UTEP covering here if they play well but I like the Beavers just a bit better.
