Week 2: Pittsburgh vs Tennessee 9/10/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Pittsburgh Panthers and Tennessee Volunteers clash Saturday in a week 2 college football showdown from Acrisure Stadium.

The Tennessee Volunteers will be looking to build on their 59-10 win over Ball State from their season opener last time out. Hendon Hooker’s thrown for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns on 72% passing while Joe Milton’s thrown for 113 yards and a TD on 88.9% passing. Jaylen Wright leads Tennessee with 88 rushing yards and a score while Jabari Small also has 63 rushing yards with a TD. Cedric Tillman leads the Vols in receiving with 6 catches for 68 yards while Jimmy Holliday has 62 receiving yards with a touchdown and Ramel Keyton has 57 receiving yards. On defense, Aaron Beasley, Warren Burrell and Christian Charles all have a team-high 8 tackles while Kamal Hadden has an interception this season.

The Pitt Panthers will hope to build on their win in the Backyard Brawl over West Virginia by a final score of 38-31 last time out. Kedon Slovis has thrown for 308 yards and a touchdown while Rodney Hammond Jr. has a team-high 74 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Jared Wayne leads Pitt’s receiving group with 89 receiving yards while Konata Mumpfield has a team-high 5 catches for 71 yards and Hammond Jr. has 55 receiving yards out of the backfield. On defense, Bangally Kamara has a team-high 8 total tackles including 6 solo tackles while M.J. Devonshire has an interception and John Morgan III and SirVocea Dennis each have a sack as well this season.

Tennessee is 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Pitt is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 home games.

I love the over here. I get that these are two teams that are expected to do some big things in their respective conferences this year, but these are two explosive offenses as well and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a game here where both teams get into the mid- to high-30s, kind of what we saw in Pittsburgh’s opener against West Virginia.
