Week 3: Georgia State vs Charlotte 9/17/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Georgia State Panthers and Charlotte 49ers do battle Saturday night in week 3 college football action from Center Parc Stadium.

The Charlotte 49ers will be out to rebound from a 56-21 loss to Maryland in their last game. Xavier Williams has thrown for 392 yards and 2 touchdowns on 53.4% passing while Shadrick Byrd leads the 49ers with 135 rushing yards as well this season. Grant DuBose, Elijah Spencer and Victor Tucker have already given Charlotte three 200+ yard receivers this season. On defense, Wayne Jones leads the 49ers with 25 total tackles while Jalar Holley and Kofi Wardlow each have a sack and Comanche Francisco has an interception.

The Georgia State Panthers will hope to bounce back and get their first win after a 35-28 loss to North Carolina last time out. Darren Grainger has thrown for 297 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception while also rushing for 118 yards, one of three 100+ yard rushers so far for Georgia State with Jayest Williams leading the way with 144 rushing yards. Rombert Thomas and Jamari Thrash have combined for 17 grabs and 255 yards as Georgia State’s lone pair of 100+ yard receivers so far. On defense, Jordan Veneziale and Blake Carroll each have a team-high 18 total tackles with Carroll logging 1.5 sacks and Quavian White has a pair of interceptions.

Charlotte is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games on turf. Georgia State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against C-USA and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 home games.

I get the case to be made for a sizeable underdog as no one wants to lay almost three scores with a team like Georgia State’s who’s 0-2 on the surface. However, facing UNC and South Carolina are not any sort of walks in the park and the Panthers held themselves in it pretty respectably in those two games. Charlotte’s been dismantled all season long and I don’t expect that to suddenly change here. Give me the Panthers laying the big number.
