Week 6: Georgia State vs Georgia Southern 10/8/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Georgia State Panthers and Georgia Southern Eagles do battle Saturday in a week 6 Sun Belt college football game from Center Park Stadium.

The Georgia Southern Eagles will be looking to rebound after falling to 3-2 on the year following a 34-30 loss to Coastal Carolina last time out. Kyle VanTrease has thrown for 1,574 yards, 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on 60.7% passing while Jalen White and Gerald Green have combined for 740 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Derwin Burgess Jr. leads the Eagles with 32 receptions and 401 receiving yards while Khaleb Hood has 309 receiving yards this season. On defense, Marques-Watson-Trent has a team-high 37 total tackles while Georgia Southern’s defensive unit as a whole has 5 sacks and 4 interceptions this season.

The Georgia State Panthers will try to add to their first win of the season, picking up a 31-14 win over Army in their last game. Darren Grainger has thrown for 1,028 yards, 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while Tucker Gregg has a team-high 349 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns while three other Panthers have 200+ rushing yards this season. Jamari Thrash leads Georgia State with 25 grabs for 428 yards while Robert Lewis has 43 catches for 288 yards and 5 touchdowns. On defense, Jordan Veneziale has a team-high 49 total tackles while Georgia State’s defensive unit has 7 sacks and Quavian White has 3 interceptions.

Georgia Southern is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Georgia State is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win.

Does this line look funky? Sure, as Georgia State finally got their first win and side-by-side, Georgia Southern’s the better team on both sides of the football. That kind of line will scare some folks off, but I’m going on the basis that it’s just a bad line. Georgia State beat Army, but if you can stop the option, you make a running team have to pass and that’s not what Army does so I think that made Georgia State look better than they are. Georgia Southern kept it tight against Coastal and this Georgia Southern squad is still the far better unit on both sides of the ball. Give me Georgia Southern in a game the Eagles could and should win outright.
