The Brisbane Heat face the Adelaide Strikers in the Eliminator match of the Australian Big Bash League 2021. The match will take place on Friday January 29th, 2021 at approximately 4:30am EST. The match will be played at the famous Gabba ground in Brisbane. Both teams had identical win-loss records during the group stages with 7 wins and 7 losses so they are seemingly very evenly matched. The Strikers won both times they played earlier in the season, will they continue that streak and advance? Or will Brisbane beat the odds?
The Brisbane Heat finished in fourth position after the group stages and will be boosted by the fact that they are playing on their home ground. Their outstanding performers so far are Chris Lynn (420 runs), Max Bryant (302 runs) and Mark Steketee with 22 wickets. Their batting has further been bolstered by superstar Marnus Labuschagne who is back from international duty, giving star power and solidity to their line-up. They managed to sneak into the Finals with a dramatic win over the Perth Scorchers in their last match of the season and will be looking to ride that wave of confidence here.
The Adelaide Strikers finished in fifth position after the group stages and will be confident going into this match, knowing that they defeated the Heat twice recently. Their outstanding players thus far have been Alex Carey (412 runs), Jake Weatherald (401 runs) and Wes Agar (21 wickets). They are very fortunate to be in the finals here, losing their final match against the Sydney Thunder and deemed down and out, but both the Hurricanes and the Stars lost their final matches. If either of them had won, the Strikers would have been eliminated. They will be looking to take advantage of that good fortune and advance further into the competition.
This match should be very close, and while the head to head suggests a win for the Strikers, I believe that the Heat have the edge here. They had a fantastic win in their last match while the Strikers had a crushing defeat that almost cost them a place in the finals. Getting Marnus Labuschagne who is one of the best batsmen in the world back will be huge for their confidence and I believe that those two factors put them over the top. Brisbane Heat to win.
