Barbados Royals vs Jamaica Tallawahs

CPL 2021 continues with another exciting match tomorrow in the second fixture of the day between the Barbados Royals and the Jamaica Tallawahs at Warner Park, Basseterre in St. Kitts.

The Barbados Royals snatched victory for the jaws of defeat after batting first and being 51 for 4 at one stage, they turned around and ended on 161 for 5. Credit must go to Glenn Phillips (56) and Raymon Reifer (31) who placed the Royals in a commanding position with a 79 run partnership after Johnson Charles scored 25 at the top of the order. With the ball, Mohammad Amir was once again inspirational taking 2 wickets in his four overs followed by the eventual Man-Of-The-Match awardee Raymon Reifer who took 3 wickets including the prize wicket of Andre Russell while Thisara Perera also took 2 wickets and Captain Jason Holder took 1. The Barbados Royals would be happy with the results and will hope that it helps them gain a winning momentum but they know they have a lot of work to do in all 3 departments if they are to do so.

The Jamaica Tallawahs let the game slip through their fingers, literally. They had the Barbados Royals firmly on the backfoot without any answers yet somehow, some way, they lost the game. Veersammy Permaul was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets in his 4 overs going for just 15 runs. Imran Khan was also economical albeit without getting any wickets of his own in the 2 overs he bowled. Miguel Pretorius, Andre Russell and Captain Rovman Powell all took 1 wicket each but they were rather expensive through poor lines and lengths. The Tallawahs batting never really got going as Chadwick Walton and Kennar Lewis lost their wickets within the powerplay and Haider Ali who went in at number 3 also lost his wicket within the first six overs. Shamarh Brooks (47) and Carlos Brathwaite (29) put on a 66 run partnership that started to give the Tallawahs hope but alas their efforts came to naught when Carlos lost his wicket in the 15th over and then the destructive Andre Russell lost his wicket in the same over before they eventually succumbed to the Barbados Royals by 15 runs. Tomorrow they will have to start and finish in an effective manner if they wish to not have a repeat of yesterday.

This battle between these two teams keep cricketing fans like myself at the edge of our seats. The Barbados Royals are currently 5th on the table and will be looking to creep into the top four while the Jamaica Tallawahs are in 2nd position and will look to maintain that. I have the Jamaica Tallwahs winning tomorrows encounter on the back of fireworks by Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite leaving the Barbados Royals to answer many questions. The Royals have a strong overall team but have been let down time and time again by their batting and unfortunately I see this happening yet again here.
