Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders
September 23, 2021 10:00 am EDT
IPL season 13 resumes tomorrow September 23rd, 2021 with a belter of a game between two mid-table teams who are heavyweights in this league. Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders will meet in the middle at 10:00 EST in Abu Dhabi.
Mumbai Indians played Chennai Super Kings in their first game since the resumption of the tournament, losing that encounter by 20 runs. For Mumbai it is another opportunity to find back their rhythm and return to winning ways as their captain Rohit Sharma is expected to reclaim his place in the side. The ever explosive Hardik Pandya is also anticipated to be in the fold as well to help strengthen the batting core of the Indians, however, Saurabh Tiwary who is currently playing in his position, made a valuable 50 that aided in Mumbai almost getting over the line, so a tough decision is ahead for the selection panel. From a bowling perspective, Mumbai Indians weren’t as on song as their usual customary, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah in particular were ineffective despite taking 2 wickets each. They will be looking to rectify the mistakes made in the previous game and capitalize on their strengths as they seek to climb the leader board.
Kolkata Knight Riders have resumed proceedings with a comprehensive win over the powerhouse that is Royal Challengers Bangalore, beating them by 9 wickets. The bowlers for the Knight Riders were exceptional with their poise and effectiveness, not one bowler bowled an economy rate over 6 and Varun Chakravarthy along with Andre Russell, picked up 3 wickets each at an economy rate of 3.25 and 3 respectively. The amazing efforts from Kolkata’s bowlers enabled them to shut out their opponents for just 92 runs within 20 overs which was then decimated by Shubman Gill (48) and Venkatesh Iyer (41 not out). They are facing a tougher challenge in Mumbai Indians and will need to replicate a similar type of performance if they are to win and keep their campaign alive.
Another thrilling match is on the cards as is the norm in the Indian Premier League, you simply have to love every aspect and every minute of it. Kolkata Knight Riders were impressive in their last game but not throughout the tournament, can they change their fortune? Mumbai Indians lost their previous encounter but are still sitting in the top 4 currently, can they maintain that position or higher? I believe Mumbai Indians will bounce back and win tomorrow’s clash, maintaining their top 4 spot and leaving Kolkata Knight Riders in a spot of bother. They have a bit more firepower than their opponents and it is only a matter of time before they gel and dominate.
