Fantasy Baseball 2013

2013-08-03 11:00:00 EDT

It’s the beginning of a new week, and thus the end of the weekend series around the MLB. Today will feature plenty of fantasy considerations out there on the diamond, so let’s take a quick look around the league and check out some of the noteworthy stars who are making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.

Curtis Granderson, OF, New York Yankees: Granderson has played just two games since coming off the disabled list, and he definitely got it going yesterday. He managed a 2-for-4 line with a homer, a steal, two runs and two RBI in San Diego. It’s tough telling what Granderson’s made of this year, as he hasn’t had much of a chance to prove himself. We’ll have to watch him closely these last couple months. That said, he’s had just 36 at-bats so far.

Michael Bourn, OF, Cleveland Indians: Bourn was absolutely essential in the Indians’ win yesterday, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three steals (his first swipes since the break). Finesse-wise, Bourn’s season-long numbers look pretty good. He’s hitting .284 with 33 RBI, 49 runs and 16 steals. After finishing off the Marlins today, it’s back home to face Detroit.

Manny Machado, 3B, Baltimore Orioles: Machado hit a couple of benchmarks in his team’s loss to Seattle yesterday. He knocked his 10th home run of the year, and also tallied his 40th double in a 2-for-4 effort. Machado now has a modest three-game hit streak to his credit after whiffing in six of his previous seven. This week, the Orioles will hit the road and head to San Diego.

Matt Wieters, C, Baltimore Orioles: Let’s stick with the Orioles-Mariners game for a moment and check in on Wieters. He had a solid game as well, going 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a steal. Prior to yesterday’s breakout, Wieters had been in an 0-for-24 hole, so he probably spent the game on many fantasy owners’ benches. He’s been hit-and-miss this year, carrying a BA of just .237.

David Price, SP, Tampa Bay Rays: Price posted another solid outing yesterday against the Giants, but had to settle for a no-decision in return for his efforts. He went nine innings, allowing just one earned on five hits and striking out five. Price has been very solid over his last three outings. In that span, he’s 2-0 and has allowed only one earned in each appearance. For his next start, he’ll face the Dodgers on Friday.
