It’s Friday, and around here that means it’s time for our biweekly waiver wire updates. In this edition, we’re focusing on position players, and if you’re in the market we’ve got some good news. There are plenty of potential stars out there to help you during these last couple months of the fantasy baseball season, so let’s take a closer look at who’s trending.
Robbie Grossman, OF, Houston Astros: Grossman is on a tear lately, and he’s one of the most popular waiver adds because of it. He’s got a 10-game hit streak to his credit, with three homers, nine RBI, four steals and six multi-hit outings in that span. Grossman is more known for his speed than anything, and that’s the only real sure thing you’ll get with him. Still, enjoy the power surge while you can and pick him up.
Wilmer Flores, 3B, New York Mets: Flores only has three major league games under his belt, but the buzz surrounding him is good enough to vault him to the top of the waiver trends list. He’s got two hits and four RBI in his trio of appearances, and although there’s not much of a precedent to base any projections on, the general consensus is that he’ll hit for decent average. Flores is a deeper-league name with some potential.
Leonys Martin, OF, Texas Rangers: Martin has posted some nice numbers over the past 10 games. He’s hit in eight of those appearances, tallying seven RBI, six steals (back-to-back three-swipe games this week) and five multi-hit outings. While Martin won’t maintain quite a torrid pace for the rest of the season, he makes a nice source of low-end across-the-board numbers for the moment.
Brian Dozier, 2B, Minnesota Twins: Dozier turned some heads on Wednesday with his 3-for-5 effort against the Royals that was just a homer shy of the cycle. He’s hit in eight of the last 10 games, with four multi-hit outings and eight RBI in that span. Dozier is still hitting just .242 on the season, so it’s up to you to decide if this pace is sustainable or just an aberration.

Stephen Drew, SS, Boston Red Sox: Drew had a big game of his own on Wednesday, slapping a two-run, game-winning bomb against the Astros. He followed that up with a 2-for-4 effort against the Royals. That brings his hit streak to nine games, and during that time he’s racked up eight RBI and six runs. Drew is still hitting just .253, but he makes a nice slot-in at a thin position right now.
