Fantasy Football 2013: Player News and Updates for 8/19
Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Britt, the Broncos TEs and more
August 19, 2013
Now that we’ve had a chance to settle down from the frenzied NFL preseason action from the past weekend, it’s a good time to check in on some of the fantasy names out there. Let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy players who are making headlines right now and see what we can expect moving forward. Here’s the latest.
Broncos TE Situation: With TE being such a thin fantasy position filled with doubt this season, we’re following up on any leads that present themselves. One cluttered situation lies in Denver, where another tight end stood up and demanded attention this past weekend.
Julius Thomas earned quite a bit of work against the Seahawks, and he responded with a 70-yard game. He got some additional looks due to the absence of Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen, who are both fighting injuries. It’s hard telling who has the most fantasy upside here, but we’ll know more after the Broncos’ third preseason game this week. Until then, try to stay away.

Kenny Britt, WR, Tennessee Titans: Britt has been a popular sleeper pick in many drafts this year (and we’re admittedly on that bandwagon as well), but thus far in the preseason he hasn’t shown us much. Through the Titans’ first couple of games, he’s caught just two passes for 16 yards on six targets. His knee injury is also something of a red flag, as he’s expected to be dealing with it for the entire season.
With all that in mind, Britt still makes a pretty good fantasy selection. You should be able to find him somewhere around No. 30 among wide receivers.
Jets RB Situation: We’ve been big proponents of Jets RB Chris Ivory this season, but thus far he hasn’t done much to solidify himself as the team’s top rusher. Fellow RB Bilal Powell had the big night in the Jets’ second preseason game on Saturday, rushing for 68 yards on seven carries.
Granted, that was against the lowly Jaguars defense, but it does raise some concerns about the Jets’ RB hierarchy. Those gunning for Ivory as a sleeper pick in the draft should pay close attention during the team’s third preseason game.
Rams Names to Watch: When the Rams play their third preseason game in Denver on Saturday, there are a handful of players fantasy owners should be keeping their eyes on.
First off, there’s Tavon Austin. He’s been heavily targeted in the preseason thus far, which is a good indication of his value in fantasy. You should be able to find him in the mid-to-late 20s among wide receivers, and he should deliver.
Then, there’s popular RB sleeper pick Daryl Richardson. He doesn’t quite have the starting job locked up, as Isaiah Pead also earned quite a bit of work this past weekend. Whoever outperforms the other on Saturday will likely have the edge moving into the regular season. We’re still betting on Richardson, but you never know.
