Fantasy Baseball Daily: Checking in on Price, Chapman and more
August 25, 2013
The weekend is almost at a close (sadly), but we’ve still got one final game in all the weekend series' across the MLB. We’ve already seen plenty of fantasy repercussions over the past couple of days, and that’s sure to continue in the coming hours. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league at the noteworthy fantasy performers out there. Here’s the latest:
David Wright, 3B, New York Mets: Having Wright out is a major bummer, we know. There’s a bit of a glimmer at the end of the tunnel, however, as he made some major progress in his return from a hamstring injury this weekend.
He’s begun a running program as of yesterday, which should lead to more baseball-related activities in the near future. An optimistic diagnosis has Wright coming back to the field sometime next month, and that’s still a realistic option. Hang onto him in the meantime, while the Mets see where he’s at. He’s worth it.

Matt Moore, SP, Tampa Bay Rays: Moore continued marching through his rehab yesterday, throwing a scheduled simulated game. He’s been out since July 28, thanks to an elbow injury, and his 14-3 record is becoming a distant memory to fantasy owners.
The Rays are being extremely cautious with Moore’s recovery--as well they should--so don’t expect any sort of quick turnaround here. The best we can report is that he’ll be back sometime next month--not the most positive analysis, but at least we’ll see him again before the fantasy season is over.
Will Venable, OF, San Diego Padres: Popular waiver add Venable turned some more heads last night, posting a solid outing against the Cubs. He went 3-for-4 in the game, with a solo homer and a steal mixed in. That makes two home runs and a whopping six hits in two games this weekend against the North-Siders. On the year, Venable has some solid numbers for a lower-end add, with 19 homers, 46 RBI and 15 steals. If he’s still out there in your league, he’s worth a pickup.
David Price, SP, Tampa Bay Rays: Let’s head back down to Tampa Bay and check in on Price, who posted another victory against the Yankees yesterday. He went six innings, allowing two earned on five hits and striking out five. Price has pitched pretty well as of late, and he hasn’t recorded a loss since July 12. As a matter of fact, he’s 5-0 in his last eight starts. His next outing will come on Thursday, when the Angels come to visit.
Aroldis Chapman, RP, Cincinnati Reds: Three days after notching his first career six-out save, Chapman was back in action last night against Milwaukee. He delivered the goods, notching three strikeouts in an inning of work for his 33rd save of the year. That’s his fourth three-strikeout line in his last 10 appearances. Chapman has had his downer moments this season, but on the whole has been just about everything fantasy owners expected. He’s currently sporting a 2.87 ERA with 90 strikeouts and 23 walks.
