Fantasy Baseball News: Injury Update 9/3/13
Fantasy Baseball Daily: Injury Updates for 9/3
September 3, 2013
It was a long and busy weekend around the MLB, which makes today a good time to check in on some of the injured players out there. We’ve seen a host of noteworthy fantasy names suffer various ailments recently, so let’s take a closer look and see what we can be expecting as these players nurse themselves back to health. Here’s the latest.
Elvis Andrus, SS, Texas Rangers: Andrus missed out on yesterday’s game against the Athletics. He’s now missed two in a row with back tightness that forced him out early on Saturday. There’s a reasonable chance that Andrus could return today, but we wouldn’t expect the Rangers to push him, especially since they’ve got plenty of roster space right now. On the year, he’s hitting .263 with 75 runs and 35 stolen bases.

Dexter Fowler, OF, Colorado Rockies: Fowler was out of the Rockies lineup yesterday against the Dodgers, which makes six games in a row he’s missed. He’s been battling a knee injury since last week, but an MRI revealed no structural damage.
Fowler was running sprints yesterday, so he seems to be getting closer to a return. Consider him day-to-day and keep an eye on the lineup cards before inserting him back into your fantasy lineup.
Miguel Cabrera, 3B, Detroit Tigers: Cabrera’s injury is by far the most important issue in the fantasy world right now, and there really haven’t been a whole lot of positive indications concerning a quick return. He’s been out since Friday, when he left the game against Cleveland with irritation in his abdominals. Here’s our take on it: Triple Crown repeat run or not, the Tigers need Cabrera healthy for the back stretch of the season. They’ll be making sure he’s good to go before putting him back in there. We wouldn’t be surprised if he sat out the rest of the Boston series, so make sure you’re checking the lineups every day.
Jason Castro, C, Houston Astros: Castro has been a nice waiver wire pickup for those in need of a backstop, and he’s now being utilized in the vast majority of leagues. He’s having some injury trouble right now, however, as he was pulled from yesterday’s game with a sprain in his right knee. Making matters worse, that’s the same knee Castro tore the ACL in a couple years back. We’re waiting on some additional information here as far as severity, so you may want to slot in a backup catcher for the time being.
Yasiel Puig, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: The other big-time injury impacting fantasy rosters everywhere belongs to Puig, who hurt his knee sliding into third base yesterday. He’s considered day-to-day, but was dealing with some degree of stiffness in the joint after the game. It’s doubtful that Puig will play today against Colorado, and if he’s still having discomfort tomorrow he’ll probably sit out the series finale as well. We’ll keep you posted on his return, and in the meantime you’ll have to use a backup outfielder off your bench.
