It’s Thursday, and around here that means it’s time to start looking forward to the weekend series around the MLB. We’ve perused the schedules and come up with a handful of players who have favorable matchups in the upcoming games and should be posting some solid fantasy numbers. Best of all, these players are widely available off the waiver wire. Let’s take a closer look and see if anyone is right for your team.

Yusmeiro Petit, SP, San Francisco Giants: Petit is on a roll recently, and it’s shot him to the top of the waiver wire ranks. Over his last two starts, he’s posted a pair of wins, tallying a combined four earned runs and 16 strikeouts. Petit will get the start tomorrow against the Diamondbacks at home, which makes him a nice fantasy option for a plug-and-play or a more lengthy addition for a stretch run.

Matt Adams, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals: With the injury to Allen Craig, fantasy owners are scrambling to find a (hopefully) short-term replacement. They don’t have to look far for a potential add, as Adams played the hero in a two-homer effort last night. He had previously been slumping as a pinch-hitter and intermittent replacement, but this could mark the beginning of something good. If Craig misses time, Adams could come into play as a significant fantasy add. Let’s just hope he keeps hitting.

Billy Hamilton, SS, Cincinnati Reds: Hamilton is storming up the waiver wire ranks lately, and he hasn’t even logged a major league hit yet. There is one thing he’s good at, however, and that’s stealing bases. He’s got two thus far, coupled with a pair of runs. Don’t expect Hamilton to get a ton of at-bats; he’s more of a situational-type player whose main mission is to swipe bags. Still, if you’re hurting in that department, he may prove useful against the Dodgers.

Will Middlebrooks, 3B, Boston Red Sox: After a pretty ugly season thus far, Middlebrooks is proving his use over the past handful of games. He hit in each outing during the Detroit series, posting a total of five hits, six RBI and two runs. Middlebrooks has proven that he can sustain a hot streak, so he might be useful in the upcoming series. The Red Sox start a four-game set against the Yankees in New York today, and there should be plenty of fireworks in that one.

Christian Yelich, OF, Miami Marlins: Yelich hasn’t been utilized too much in fantasy circles, but he’s been gaining attention lately. He’s currently rocking a five-game hit streak, and he’s hit in eight of his last 10 overall. During his streak, Yelich has produced three steals, three RBI, four runs and three multi-hit outings, so he’s getting it done across the board. If you need a lower-end outfielder for the weekend, consider Yelich in the Nationals series. He won’t see Strasburg until Sunday.
