Fantasy football is back in a big way, and yesterday served as an exciting first Sunday of a long season ahead. While we’re waiting on the last pair of games to come our way in the next several hours (and decide the fates of countless fantasy contests), let’s take a look at some of the top performances and noteworthy storylines from around the fantasy world. Here’s the latest.

Reggie Bush, RB, Detroit Lions: We’ll just go ahead and pat ourselves on the back for singling out Bush this off-season as a strong fantasy play. He got off to a hot start against the Vikings yesterday, posting 191 yards of total offense and a huge receiving TD in the victory. The numbers equaled out to 90 on the ground and 101 in the air, which played out exactly as we (and many others) anticipated: Bush will be a dual threat in Detroit, and he’ll rack up tons of yardage in the passing game. Next up is a trip down to Arizona, but in the meantime owners will want to keep an eye on a couple of minor injuries he sustained during the game (thumb and groin).

T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts: As we bask in our successful picks, so also do we own up to our misfires. We had Hilton pegged for a big game against the Raiders yesterday, however he ended with anything but. He was only able to rack up 20 yards on three catches, but that can be attributed to Oakland playing it safe and making sure he wouldn’t beat them deep. Hilton will get a handful of long tosses throughout each game, and if he can connect on just one, his numbers will look great for the week. He’s still a good bet for Week 2 against the Dolphins.

Jordan Cameron, TE, Cleveland Browns: Okay, now, back to the players we were right about. We spent a lot of time talking up Cameron last week, and he came through big-time against the aforementioned Dolphins. As a matter of fact, he was one of the team’s few bright spots, posting 108 yards and a score on nine grabs. If he can remain healthy, he should have an outstanding year. Julius Thomas’ big performance against the Ravens last week bodes well for Cameron’s impending Week 2 matchup.

Martellus Bennett, TE, Chicago Bears: Bennett posted a solid opener for the Bears in their come-from-behind victory over the Bengals yesterday. As expected, he clicked with QB Jay Cutler in the red zone, snatching an impressive TD grab early in the game. He finished with 49 receiving yards. The Vikings D looked pretty sketchy today against the Lions, so Bennett could be in line for another nice fantasy performance next week.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: Speaking of the Vikings, we can’t close things out today without mentioning Peterson. He looked amazing on his first carry, a 78-yard touchdown scamper, but was bottled up for most of the afternoon otherwise. Peterson finished with 93 yards on 18 carries, but added a trio of touchdowns for an outstanding fantasy line. The Chicago matchup could be good for the league’s reigning MVP as well. He posted a total of 262 yards and a pair of scores in the two Vikings-Bears games in 2012.
