Fantasy Baseball Daily: Checking in on Puig, Altuve and more
September 15, 2013
Sunday means another round of weekend series are coming to an end, so it’s always a busy time for fantasy baseball. We’ve already seen plenty of action over the past couple of days, and the series finales are sure to continue that trend. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the key fantasy players out there and see what we can be expecting as the season winds down. Here’s the latest.
David Wright, 3B, New York Mets: Those fantasy owners who have been patiently awaiting the return of Wright may be getting their wishes this week. He was able to run the bases yesterday, and didn’t have any issues. As of right now, the plan is to have him return at some point during the series against San Francisco--that one will get started on Tuesday. Wright has been out for quite some time, but he’s been able to set up his return before the hourglass expired on the season. He’ll be a nice lift for the last part of the fantasy year.

Jose Altuve, 2B, Houston Astros: What a month Altuve has been having. He added another multi-hit game to his résumé last night against the Angels, finishing with a 3-for-4 line. During the last 10 games, Altuve has posted seven-multi-hit outings, and only failed to hit in one appearance. He’s also got nine RBI, four steals and nine runs in that span. Altuve has been disappointing in some fantasy categories, but he’s making up for it with the late charge.
Yasiel Puig, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: Puig owners will have to keep an eye out for any information coming out of Dodgers HQ today. He was injured making a diving play on a ball during yesterday’s game against the Giants. It was an overall bad day for Puig, as he was also hit by a pitch the inning before. There haven’t been many specifics announced by the Dodgers just yet--it’s possible he was removed simply because they were losing so badly at the time--so we’ll have to watch the lineup cards before this afternoon’s finale.
Ubaldo Jimenez, SP, Cleveland Indians: Jimenez nearly went the distance during last night’s start against Chicago, and though the CG miss is disappointing, his owners will take it. He lasted 8 1/3 in this one, recording his third straight win. During his streak, Jimenez has allowed just one earned run and struck out 22. He gets another nice start lined up for his next outing, which will come Thursday at home against Houston. Keep him in your fantasy rotation.
Brandon Belt, 1B, San Francisco Giants: Belt has quietly been posting some pretty solid numbers as of late, and he’s making a low-end start pay off for fantasy owners. Just yesterday, he posted a 5-for-6 effort against L.A., an outing which included a homer, four runs and a whopping six RBI. He’s now hit in eight of the last 10, with nine RBI, seven runs and five multi-hit outings in that span. Belt is hitting .289 on the year with 16 homers, 62 RBI and 72 runs. He’ll be in New York this week to see the Mets and Yankees.
