Fantasy Baseball Daily: Checking in on Fielder, Buchholz and more
September 16, 2013
Today will be a relatively tame day in fantasy baseball, as many teams are switching locations for their early-week series. In the meantime, we’ve still got plenty to talk about after a big weekend of games around the MLB. Let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players out there and see what everyone’s got in store for us this week. Here’s the latest.
Clay Buchholz, SP, Boston Red Sox: Buchholz remained perfect after yesterday’s start, as he was once again immaculate against the Yankees. He went six innings, allowing just two hits and no earned runs in the victory. That brings him to an unbelievable 11-0 on the year. It’s just Buchholz’s second start since coming back from injury, and in that span he’s allowed just five hits and no earned runs. Next up, we’ll see if he can make it 12-0 on the season with a win at home against Toronto on Saturday.

Alex Rodriguez, 3B, New York Yankees: Speaking of the Yankees-Red Sox game, Rodriguez experienced an up-and-down day. After going 1-for-2 with an RBI (his first hit in the last three games), he began experiencing tightness in his calf and had to come out of the game. The good news here is that Rodriguez’s injury isn’t considered serious, and he may even be able to come back to the lineup for tonight’s game. He’s hitting .280 with 13 RBI through 125 at-bats this season and has made a decent lower-end pickup.
Dexter Fowler, OF, Colorado Rockies: In other injury news, we’ve got an update on Fowler this morning, and it should serve to delight his fantasy owners. Today will be a big day for him, as he will undergo an evaluation on his ailing knee in the coming hours. If everything checks out, he’ll be cleared to rejoin the lineup for tonight’s game against the Cardinals. Fowler has been out for the last 10 days with the injury. He’s currently sitting at .262 BA, 12 homers, 42 RBI, 71 runs and 19 stolen bases, so he’ll be very valuable for a stretch fantasy run.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks: Yesterday was a very good day for Goldschmidt. He finished with a 4-for-4 line against Colorado, including five RBI and a home run. The long-ball was Goldschmidt’s 32nd of the year, and we’ll admit, even we didn’t see all that coming. The perfect outing raised his season-long BA to .301, giving him 114 RBI on the year as well. He’s even contributed in finesse areas this season, posting 14 stolen bases. The Diamondbacks will face the Dodgers and Rockies this week.
Prince Fielder, 1B, Detroit Tigers: Fielder has quietly been raising his BA recently, and his surge has paid of big-time for fantasy owners. He’s coming off a 3-for-4 effort against the Royals yesterday, and has now hit in seven of the last nine games. During that span, Fielder has provided four runs, seven RBI, two homers and four multi-hit games. He’ll see the Mariners and the White Sox this week in an attempt to creep his average ever closer to the magical number of .300.
