Fantasy Football News: Injury Update 9/16/13
Fantasy Football Daily: Injury News 9/16/13
September 16, 2013
Yesterday seemed like a particularly busy day for injuries across the NFL, which is definitely bad news for fantasy owners. An unfortunate absence can mean the difference not only between wins and losses, but ultimately a championship in your league. With that in mind, let’s check in on some of the noteworthy ailments from yesterday’s games and see what we can be expecting as we move forward.
Ray Rice, RB, Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens managed to bag their first win of the year yesterday against the Browns, but Rice didn’t make much of a statistical impact during the game. He finished with 45 total yards and no scores, but of a more pressing concern is the fact that he had to leave the game during the fourth quarter due to a hip injury. Initial tests diagnosed it as a hip flexor strain, and the good news is that it seems to be muscular and not structural in nature. We’ll have to wait on further testing this week, but the early indications seem positive in avoiding a long-term setback.

Steven Jackson, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Jackson didn’t last very long in the Falcons’ game against his former team yesterday. He had to come out after the opening drive, after scoring on an eight-yard reception. Atlanta wasn’t able to do much on the ground after he left. Jackson’s ailment is classified as a thigh bruise, which doesn’t sound too bad but could cause problems in his availability for the Dolphins game. Miami kept the Colts below 100 yards rushing (95) in yesterday’s win.
Reggie Bush, RB, Detroit Lions: It wasn’t a good day for running backs, as Bush suffered an injury yesterday as well. He finished the game against Arizona with nine rushes for 25 yards and three grabs for 44 yards. Bush injured his knee during the game, came out for a while, then returned. When he hurt his knee again his day was over. We’ll have to wait on tests to see what sort of an issue he’s dealing with, but you can add it to the list. He was on the report heading into Week 2, thanks to groin and thumb issues.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals: Let’s stick with the Cardinals-Lions matchup and check in on Fitzgerald. In the week leading up to the game, he was a major injury concern with his hamstring issue. That issue reared its head as the Cardinals were playing, and Fitzgerald had to come out of the game. He spent most of the second half on the sidelines with a wrap on his hamstring. The effects of the injury were noticeable, as he wasn’t able to get open as per usual. For what it’s worth, Fitzgerald believes he’ll be able to play in Week 3, but we’ll have to wait it out and see how he responds to treatment. It’s going to be another few days of worry for his fantasy owners.
Andre Johnson, WR, Houston Texans: Concussions are serious business, so we understand the Texans’ concern over Johnson. Their star WR had to come out of yesterday’s game against the Titans during the fourth quarter after a hard hit. Afterward, he was evaluated for concussion symptoms and didn’t return. He finished with 76 yards on eight grabs. The early indications on Johnson are positive, as he maintained that he was okay when talking to teammates. Still, the league has very strict protocol when dealing with concussion-like symptoms, so expect a very stringent evaluation this week before he’s cleared for Week 3 against Baltimore.
