Fantasy Baseball Daily: Injury Updates for 9/17
September 17, 2013
Mondays are usually a pretty slow day around the MLB, which makes Tuesday an opportune time to check in on some of the noteworthy injuries around the fantasy baseball world. We’ve got our usual mix of big-time names and prognoses this morning, so let’s take a closer look at the details and see what’s in store for these players as we move forward. Here’s the latest.
Yoenis Cespedes, OF, Oakland Athletics: Cespedes’ shoulder will be something for fantasy owners to keep their eyes on in the waning days of the season, but for now things seem okay. He was able to rejoin the lineup yesterday, and managed a couple hits in the DH slot. He’ll reportedly be listed as day-to-day, and will join the lineup depending on how he feels. Cespedes will likely spend most of his time in the DH slot, so that’s good news for fantasy owners. You’ll just have to watch the lineup cards each day before slotting him in.

Alex Rodriguez, 3B, New York Yankees: Rodriguez, who has been a popular waiver wire add since rejoining the team this year, is dealing with a couple of issues right now. First there’s that nagging hamstring injury, which he appears to be mostly in control of. The more pressing situation is his calf, which he hurt on Sunday in the game against the Red Sox. For what it’s worth, Rodriguez has said that he’s unsure if he’ll be able to play tonight in Toronto, so it seems like this will be a day-to-day thing. Like with Cespedes, just keep an eye on the lineup cards.
Matt Kemp, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: What would an injury update be without mentioning Kemp’s name? Well, this is pretty encouraging. We saw Kemp make an appearance as a pinch hitter yesterday against the Diamondbacks. He promptly struck out, but hey, it was good to see him out there. Here’s the downside to the situation: we’re probably not going to see Kemp get a whole lot of action as the season wanes. The Dodgers are pretty stacked in the outfield, and there’s really no reason to rush him along. He may work as a plug-in here and there in fantasy, but that’s it.
Dexter Fowler, OF, Colorado Rockies: We’ve got some more encouraging news out of Colorado, as we saw Fowler able to play during yesterday’s game against St. Louis. He didn’t start, but made a pinch-hit appearance and stayed in the game on defense. Fowler is easing his way back after a knee injury, and hadn’t seen the field since September 6. The fact that he was out there yesterday bodes well for his availability this week, so we’ll see if he can get into the starting lineup during this series.
Wilin Rosario, C, Colorado Rockies: Just when the Rockies get one player back, they may be losing another. Fantasy owners will want to keep a close watch on the situation involving Rosario, as he left yesterday’s game due to a calf injury. He’s been plagued by nagging leg issues lately, so this could have something to do with it. There aren’t any specifics out there on Rosario’s condition, but we’ll keep you posted if anything develops further. He’s hitting .292 on the year with 21 homers and 79 RBI.
