Fantasy Football News: Injury Update 9/23/13
Fantasy Football Daily: Injury News 9/23/13
September 23, 2013
Considering all the NFL activity happening yesterday, this morning seems an opportune time to visit some of the fantasy injury concerns out there. We’ve got a handful of big-name players who are currently suffering through various ailments, and their health could play a big factor in the upcoming games. Let’s take a closer look at some of the major issues out there and see what we can determine for the future.
C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills: Spiller was a starter for the vast majority of fantasy teams yesterday, which makes his injury and stat-line that much harder to stomach. He went down with a knee injury early in the third quarter against the Jets and didn’t make it back into the game, finishing with 10 carries for just nine yards and--even worse--two fumbles.
Spiller will undergo the usual round of tests today before we can determine exactly what we’re dealing with. Judging by the initial reports, however, this one doesn’t look good.

Charles Tillman, CB, Chicago Bears: It’s not often we talk about a defensive player in this space, but Tillman is one of the bigger IDP names in fantasy, not to mention a key cog in the Bears’ defensive attack. He exited last night’s game against the Steelers with a groin injury, but there appears to be some good news here. Tillman reportedly could have returned to the game if absolutely necessary, which is a positive sign for his status against the divisional rival Lions next week. He’s got 11 tackles and a pair of picks on the season so far.
Miles Austin, WR, Dallas Cowboys: Hopes were high yesterday that Austin would have a solid outing against the Rams, but that didn’t pan out. He finished with a pair of grabs for 22 yards, exiting early with a hamstring injury. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement on the severity of his issue, but fantasy-wise, he’s probably destined for the bench unless you’re really thin at WR. Austin has just five catches in the past two games after breaking out for 10 grabs in the opener.
Jermichael Finley, TE, Green Bay Packers: Adding injury to insult yesterday was Finley’s exit from the losing effort against the Bengals. He didn’t even make it past the first drive, sustaining a blow to the head on an attempted reception and sustaining a concussion in the process. Finley appeared to be woozy and stumbling as he left the field. Concussions are tricky business, so this one could have quite an effect fantasy-wise. We’ll continue to monitor his status as he attempts to complete the league’s concussion protocols this week.
Andre Johnson, WR, Houston Texans: The Texans didn’t have a very good day yesterday either. They were manhandled by the Ravens, losing 9-30, and lost their top receiver in the process. Here’s the scoop on Johnson: he’s dealing with a shin injury and the initial X-rays came back negative. That’s a good sign, but he’ll also have to undergo an MRI today to determine the extent of the damage. That makes two injury-shortened weeks in a row for Johnson, so fantasy owners will once again be busy monitoring his status up until game time next week.
