Jason's Fantasy Football Analysis: Week 4 Injury Update

Midweek Injury Update
Another week in the NFL season means more injuries for more players. The injury bug slacked off this week as it is looking like some key fantasy players will return to field for week 4. Here is a quick analysis of some of this week's key injuries and their possible impact.
49ers Defense - San Francisco's defense was drafted as a top defense in fantasy, but they have not performed up to par. And now, not only is the entire team suffering from a Super Bowl losing hangover, but the injury bug has now decided to attack the 49ers best defensive players. Aldon Smith, the 49ers sack master, has decided to remove himself from football activities to due to a personal injury. Patrick Willis, the 49ers defensive leader, is suffering from a groin injury and may not play this week. For the past few seasons, the 49ers have been one of the most physical defenses in the league, but they have been pushed around to begin the 2013 season. Fantasy owners are losing patience with this unit, and it may be time to cut ties with a defense that used to be one of the most intimidating in the NFL.

Tampa Bay's WR - Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams have both missed practice this week. Under normal circumstances this would not be too big of deal if they are both able to suite up on Sunday; but since the Buccaneers have decided to change starting quarterbacks, Jackson and WIlliams could really use practice reps to get in sync with Mike Glennon. If the Buccaneers top two wide receivers don't practice this week, then they will make for very risky starts if they are able to suite up and take the field on Sunday. If your a fantasy owner that invested in Tampa Bay's passing attack, then you need to pay close attention to their gameday injury report and prepare a backup plan.
Vernon Davis - Since Davis went down against the Seahawks, the 49ers offense has stalled in a major way. The 49ers play on Thursday night, so fantasy owners will be the first to know if Davis is active.
Terrelle Pryor - Pryor suffered a concussion last week, and we know it was pretty bad because he tweeted he could not remember the hit. It was unfortunate timing for Pryor due to the fact that he has a very good matchup this week going against the the worst defense in the NFL. If he plays this week, he will make a great bye week replacement for Newton and Rodgers owners.
Ray Rice - Rice is still questionable for Sunday's game, and fantasy owners will need to monitor his status as the week progresses. Rice is a cornerstone for many fantasy owners and he has a great matchup this week if he can play.
The Good News
It is looking like the running back market will get a little deeper this week as several big time rushers should be able to retake the field after missing time last week. Reggie Bush was a full participant in practice and is looking good to go this week. C.J. Spiller also practiced and should be able to play this weekend as well. Lamar Miller was rumored to be in a sling after his game last week, but he has reportedly been practicing and also looks good to go this week.
