Fantasy Football News: Injury Update 10/7/13
Fantasy Football Injury News: Wilson, Vick and More
October 7, 2013
There was plenty of on-field action happening in yesterday’s slate of Week 5 NFL games, big fantasy performances included. We’re also dealing with a batch of new injury issues around the league, and some of those will have a direct impact on fantasy lineups for Week 6. Let’s take a look at some of those notable ailments and see if we can get an idea of what will be happening during the upcoming weekend. Here’s the latest.
Zac Stacy, RB, St. Louis Rams: The Rams finally got a win yesterday against the Jags, but they lost Stacy in the fourth quarter. The rookie RB earned the start over incumbent Daryl Richardson and performed pretty well. Stacy finished with 78 yards on 14 carries.
Before you rush to the waiver wire to add him (which is a good idea), keep his health in mind. He suffered a rib injury and was held out the rest of the game, but that could have been just a precaution as the Rams were comfortably ahead by then.

Michael Vick, QB, Philadelphia Eagles: One of the biggest injury issues to stem from yesterday’s action was the situation with Vick. He suffered a hamstring injury near the end of the first half and didn’t return to the game. The good news here is that he could have come back in if needed, but just wasn’t able to move to Eagles coach Chip Kelly’s liking. Vick is still the starter when he’s healthy, but we’ll have to see a full week of practice before we’re convinced he’s back to his old self for Week 6.
David Wilson, RB, New York Giants: Our love-hate relationship with Wilson took on a new twist yesterday: he finally managed to get into the end zone, but that’s about all he did against the Eagles. He came out of the game in the first quarter with a neck injury, but by most indications the issue isn’t all that serious. Wilson himself tweeted that he plans on playing in Week 6, and that he passed all tests administered. We’ll have to see what he looks like in practice this week, but just remember he’s got a quick turnaround before getting back to it against the Bears on Thursday.
Donnie Avery, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: Avery owners got some good and bad news yesterday against the Titans. He posted a nice game: 91 yards on three catches, but was injured on an acrobatic 41-yard grab in the second quarter. He wouldn’t return. The team is calling his condition a “shoulder contusion” and the initial X-rays were negative. Avery was having trouble raising his arm after the game, but by most indications he won’t miss much--if any--time with the injury.
Tonight’s Issues: There are potentially problematic injuries on both sides of the Week 5 edition of “Monday Night Football.” The Jets will be without Santonio Holmes, who is fighting off a hamstring injury.
Similarly, the Falcons have WR issues themselves. Julio Jones is questionable, and Roddy White continues to fight that high-ankle sprain (and suffered an unspecified setback last week). RB Steven Jackson will be out again.
If you’ve got any of these players on your roster, make sure you adjust your lineup accordingly before kickoff.
