Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Fitzgerald, Giants-Bears and more
October 10, 2013
It’s time to double-check those fantasy lineups; Week 6 begins tonight with Bears-Giants on NFL Network. With that in mind, we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the noteworthy happenings around the league this morning, and likewise check out some of the interesting storylines heading into tonight’s game. Let’s get to it.
Martellus Bennett, TE, Chicago Bears: It might be pretty strange for Bennett to see those blue uniforms across the line of scrimmage from him. The former Giant will face New York for the first time in a Bears uniform today, and he’s a nice fantasy start as usual.
Over the past two weeks, Bennett has racked up 17 targets, 13 catches and 146 yards. He hasn’t found the end zone since Week 2, but he’s facing a Giants team that has given up four touchdowns to opposing tight ends so far. There’s a good chance he’ll score tonight.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Chicago Bears: While we’re here in Chicago, let’s take a look at Marshall, who has been an altogether solid fantasy option for any owner fortunate enough to have him. He’ll face a Giants secondary that’s been pretty solid against the WR position--not that it’s helped them in the win column--but they haven’t quite tested themselves against a player of Marshall’s caliber.
He’s coming off a pretty poor game, actually. 30 yards on four grabs doesn’t sound exciting, but he did make it into the end zone.
Victor Cruz, WR, New York Giants: On the other side, Cruz is a player to watch for the Giants. He’s coming off a pretty lousy fantasy performance in Week 5, with just five receptions for 48 yards. The good news is that Cruz earned 12 targets in that one, so it’s not like he was being ignored.
Overall, he’s been pretty good so far. He’s got three weeks with over 100 receiving yards and four touchdowns--though three of those came in Week 1. The Bears’ secondary has been a bit of a mixed bag in stopping opposing wide receivers, so Cruz has a shot at a nice game.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals: Looking ahead to Sunday’s Cardinals-49ers game, Fitzgerald owners may have to monitor his progress over the remainder of the week. He was limited in yesterday’s practice, slowed by a hamstring injury that could spell trouble for him this weekend.
Fitzgerald has yet to equal his 80-yard performance (not to mention his two-touchdown performance) from Week 1, and this injury certainly isn’t going to help. He’s still expected to play, though.
Denarius Moore, WR, Oakland Raiders: We’ve got a receiver theme going this morning, so we’ll stick with it. Moore has been pretty darn good over the last few weeks, especially in games where Terrelle Pryor is throwing.
In the past three games, the two have hooked up for 274 yards and two scores on 15 grabs. Unfortunately, Moore will have to contend with a revitalized Chiefs defense this week. Given his potential, however, he’s still worth a fantasy start.
