Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Rudolph, Johnson and more
October 14, 2013
The majority of the fantasy football action has concluded for Week 6, but we’ve still got a few noteworthy happenings loaded up for tonight. There are all sorts of emerging storylines and noteworthy players to check out this morning, so let’s take a moment to visit some of the names and performances everyone is talking about right now. Here’s the latest.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers: Rodgers had to show his stuff yesterday in the face of adversity, and he ended up with a solid game considering the setbacks. He lost two wide receivers to injury (James Jones and Randall Cobb) during the Packers’ 19-17 victory over the Ravens, but salvaged a reasonable line anyway. Rodgers was 17-for-32 for 315 yards and a score, then added 21 rush yards. That said, the most disturbing thing here is that he hasn’t managed more than one TD pass in a game since Week 2. He’ll get a chance to reverse that trend against Cleveland in Week 7.

Andre Johnson, WR, Houston Texans: This one was a pretty weird game, and Johnson came out with an okay line under the circumstances. The Texans were pummeled by the Rams, losing 38-13 thanks to yet another ugly offensive performance. Johnson himself managed 88 yards on seven grabs, but has yet to score a touchdown as the key component of Houston’s anemic passing game. Starting QB Matt Schaub didn’t play too badly, but ended up coming out of the game due to injury in the third. We’ll have to wait and see what that means for Johnson in Week 7.
Kyle Rudolph, TE, Minnesota Vikings: We don’t quite know what to think of Rudolph. Heading into the Week 6 game against the Panthers, he had a high of 42 yards and only one touchdown on the season. During the Vikings’ loss yesterday, he posted nine receptions for a team-high 97 yards and a touchdown. Our first instinct is to chalk this up to the Vikes trying to play from behind, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it turned into a trend. We wouldn’t trust Rudolph just yet--especially considering the sketchy QB play--but he’s worth a roster spot again.
Jordan Cameron, TE, Cleveland Browns: While we’re on the subject of confusing tight ends, we don’t quite know what to make of Cameron either. The good news is that he improved over last week with his five-catch, 64-yard effort yesterday in the loss against the Lions. The bad news is that he was out-produced once again by Josh Gordon and has the up-and-down Brandon Weeden feeding him the ball. The Browns know they have to get Cameron involved; the trouble is that the other teams know that, too. Still, you’ve obviously got to keep rolling with him in fantasy.
Kansas City Defense: Hopefully you were able to snag this squad off the waiver wire early in the season, because they just keep piling on the fantasy gold. They helped keep KC unbeaten by virtually shutting down the Raiders yesterday, spearheading a 24-7 victory. They managed a whopping 10 sacks, three interceptions and a defensive touchdown in this one for one of the brightest in a string of excellent fantasy performances thus far. There’s another tasty matchup against the Texans looming in Week 7.
