It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time once again to take our weekly look at the upcoming matchup plays in fantasy football. We’ve perused the Week 7 schedule and come up with a handful of waiver-wire-level names who could break out this week, thanks to their recent play and favorable opponents. Let’s take a closer look at the candidates and see if anyone’s worth a start in your league.

Keenan Allen, WR, San Diego Chargers: After his breakout performance on Monday night against the Colts, Allen is the hottest name on the waiver wire. He posted 107 yards and a TD on nine grabs, thanks to a defensive scheme that was attempting to suffocate Antonio Gates. That’s the third straight eight-plus-points fantasy week for Allen, who seems to have earned the complete trust of Philip Rivers. Look his way for the cupcake matchup against the Jaguars.

Brandon Jacobs, RB, New York Giants: This one is injury-dependent, but we could have something here in Jacobs. He’s coming off a nice 106-yard, two-touchdown effort against the Bears, and he’s sure to get plenty of work in Week 7 with David Wilson and Da’Rel Scott both out due to injury. Jacobs is fighting a hamstring issue of his own, but if he can overcome it in time for Monday night’s game against a weak Vikings team, he could do fantasy wonders in a fill-in role.

Aaron Dobson, WR, New England Patriots: Another player who will get some extra work due to injury this week is Dobson. He saw 10 targets in the Pats’ shocking win over the Saints this past week, hauling in six of them for 63 yards. Now that Danny Amendola is down with an injury (again), Dobson’s looking like a solid option against a vulnerable Jets secondary that was carved up by Ben Roethlisberger in Week 6.

Nick Foles, QB, Philadelphia Eagles: In a week that Drew Brees is sitting out on a bye, the Eagles’ QB controversy could be your gain. Foles was brilliant filling in for Michael Vick in Week 6, tossing for 296 yards and racking up four total touchdowns in a big win against Tampa Bay. Assuming Vick isn’t healthy enough to take the field against the Cowboys on Sunday (and maybe even if he is), Foles will get the nod at home against Dallas. He could potentially find some big holes in that defense.

Mason Crosby, K, Green Bay Packers: Crosby fell out of favor last year after an ugly overall performance, but he’s back in vogue now. He’s only missed one field goal so far, and has nine makes in the last two weeks. With the Packers offense struggling to get the ball into the end zone recently, Crosby makes a lot of sense in fantasy right now. He’s a good plug-in against the Browns this week.
