Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Rice, Pitta and more
November 7, 2013
Make sure you get those lineups finalized, because Week 10 will be getting underway tonight with the Redskins and Vikings on “Thursday Night Football.” There are all sorts of injury issues and performance concerns for us fantasy owners this week, so with that in mind let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players out there who are making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.
Ray Rice, RB, Baltimore Ravens: Rice owners are in quite the quandary this week. He’s having a downright horrible season, with just two weeks of double-digit scoring to his credit and exactly zero 100-yard rushing games thus far. He’s also coming off a terrible 11-rush, 17 yard day against Cleveland this past Sunday.
Things probably won’t get any better against a pretty good Bengals defense this week. That said, it’s hard to bench Rice, given his top-10 draft status and the ability we all know he has. We realize it’s a thin week, but if you’ve got another option, take it. Otherwise, all you can do is just hope against all hope that this will (finally) be his week.

Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans: Speaking of underperforming fantasy running backs, Foster is a legitimate source of concern right now. He missed out on yesterday’s practice session, opting instead to visit with a doctor about his ailing back. It’s just the latest in a long line of injuries he’s dealt with this season, including problems with his hamstring and calf.
The health woes have limited Foster to just two 100-yard rushing games and only one rushing touchdown. Considering the circumstances he’s dealt with, however, he’s actually done pretty well when he’s been in there. The Texans head to Arizona this week for a pretty tough matchup against the Cardinals defense. We’ll keep you posted on Foster’s status.
Trent Richardson, RB, Indianapolis Colts: We really wish we could report on some good news concerning Richardson, but there isn’t ever any to go around. He and his fantasy owners apparently have a new injury situation to deal with, as he sat out yesterday’s practice session with an ankle issue. That’s a new one to us--and pretty much everyone else--as he showed no signs of being hurt during Sunday’s game.
Speaking of Sunday’s game, Richardson posted another disappointing performance against the Texans, with just 20 yards rushing on eight attempts. He’s got a promising matchup looming in Week 10, with the vulnerable Rams defense coming to town. We’ll let you know if it’s looking like he’ll be able to play.
Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens: Hey, remember Dennis Pitta? He’s the surefire breakout TE everyone (us included) had pegged for a huge fantasy campaign before the season began--then he injured his hip in July and had to undergo surgery that derailed what was looking like a promising statistical year.
Well, there’s good news on the horizon for Pitta, and thus fantasy owners in need of a TE. He’ll reportedly be returning to practice in the very near future, which means a return to the field probably isn’t too far away. There’s still no word on an official target date, so there’s no waiver wire rush just yet, but keep him in mind for the near future.
