Fantasy Football News: Injury Update 11/11/13
Fantasy Football Injury News: Cutler, Manning, Davis and More
November 11, 2013
Injuries are an unfortunate but necessary consideration in our roles as fantasy football owners, and it’s our duty to stay on top of the latest ailments around the league. This round of Week 10 games was no different, with a handful of notable players getting bitten by the injury bug. That said, let’s take a look at some of those situations and try to gauge what we should do when it comes to fantasy.
Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears: Cutler was pretty beat-up in yesterday’s loss to the Lions. After coming into the game fresh off a groin injury, he proceeded to injure his left hand (it was visibly swollen) and hurt his ankle. Though he was grabbing his groin area in obvious discomfort, Cutler said after the game that his groin was fine, and that he had rolled his ankle at some point. The good news is that the initial X-rays were negative. We’ll have to wait and see what his availability for the Ravens game is, but our guess is that the Bears will take things extra-careful with him.

Steve Johnson, WR, Buffalo Bills: Speaking of groin injuries, Johnson sustained one of his own in his team’s loss to the Steelers. He left during the fourth quarter and was unable to return to the game after managing three catches for 48 yards.
Johnson has had some injury issues that have hampered his performance this year. He suffered through a hip injury a couple weeks back, and this new injury will definitely put his availability for the Jets game in doubt. Even if he makes it back, it’s tough to rely on him in fantasy.
Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos: Thousands of Manning owners around the world gasped in horror yesterday when Peyton took a big hit in the waning minutes of the Broncos’ victory over the Chargers. He came up limping, but was able to stay in the game. He’ll get a round of MRI testing today, so we’ll be able to see what we’re dealing with. Hopefully it’s not his ankle, which has already been giving him problems. For the record, Manning wasn’t too worried about it after the game. Best-case scenario, he’s just a little sore and can come back for a huge home game against the Chiefs.
Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco 49ers: In a defense-heavy game against Carolina, Davis took a hit in the second quarter that resulted in a concussion and couldn’t return to the field. He had just one grab for two yards.
This is bad news for Davis owners ahead of a key game against the Saints. He’ll get the usual round of testing this week, and we’ll see if he’s able to play. If the concussion is minor, he might be able to return on Sunday. Darren Sproles did it last week.
Jake Locker, QB, Tennessee Titans: Of the four major QB injury issues that took place yesterday, Locker’s looks to be the most severe. He went down with a foot injury in the loss to the Jaguars, and there are significant fears that it’s serious and possibly season-ending. The early indications are that it’s a Lisfranc injury, which could mean surgery.
We won’t know anything until more tests come back, but it’s safe to say Locker will miss Thursday’s game against the Colts.
