Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Manning, Spiller and more
November 12, 2013
Now that Week 10 is all finished up, we fantasy owners can get another two-day breather before the craziness of Week 11 ensues. As per usual, there are a lot of developing storylines to stay on top of, so with that in mind let’s check in on a few of the noteworthy fantasy players out there and see what everyone’s up to. Here’s the latest.
Dolphins-Buccaneers Fantasy Notes: This “Monday Night Football” matchup didn’t provide a whole lot to get excited about, but there were definitely some notable fantasy storylines mixed in. Starting RB Mike James went down with an ankle injury early in the Bucs’ 22-19 win, so owners will be flocking to the wire to check out Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey, who both performed well in his absence.
On the other side, Rishard Matthews had a stellar game, with 11 receptions for 120 yards and two scores.
The major fantasy names here were real disappointments. Let’s roll down the list and take a look.
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports
Vincent Jackson: three catches, 28 yards
Mike Wallace: four catches, 15 yards
Daniel Thomas/Lamar Miller: A combined zero rushing yards
Santonio Holmes, WR, New York Jets: Get that waiver wire claim in on Holmes while you still can; this could be his week. The Jets’ No. 1 wide receiver, who has been missing the last five games with a hamstring injury, was practicing yesterday and the feeling around the team seems to be pretty optimistic that he’ll be able to take the field on Sunday against the Bills.
Chances are that Holmes is available in your league, so you should definitely scoop him up if you’ve got the room on your roster. Granted, he’s only got one good game on his résumé this season, but he’ll get the looks. You won’t be able to get that level of talent anywhere else.
Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos: We’ll check in on Manning very briefly this morning, as he made some waves yesterday. Late in the Broncos’ victory over the Chargers, he injured his ankle after being hit and was hobbling around pretty badly. The good news here is that the X-rays given yesterday showed he had no further damage to his ankle and should be just fine for Sunday.
That should make Manning owners very happy, although there still remains the small matter of a less-than-desirable matchup this weekend. The Chiefs will be coming to town for the first installment of a pretty tough three-game stretch for the Broncos.
C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills: There’s no way to sugar-coat it: Spiller had a horrible outing against the Steelers in Week 10. He managed only eight carries for 23 yards and three receptions for 11 more. Making matters worse, the fact that he was only on the field for 22 of 67 plays on offense brought speculation that he’d re-aggravated his high-ankle sprain.
Fortunately, his lack of playing time was due to a coaching decision and not an injury issue, so Spiller owners can take some solace in that. Even so, there’s been very little to get excited about in the Buffalo backfield. They’ll have another tough matchup against the rested Jets D on Sunday.
