Fantasy Football Injury News: Mathews, Ivory, Campbell and More
November 25, 2013
It’s that time again. Let’s take a look around the NFL and check in on some of the injury situations out there that will be impacting the world of fantasy football. We’ve got the usual round of concerning ailments this morning, so let’s see if we can figure out exactly what we should be expecting as Week 13 draws closer. Here’s the latest.
Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers: Here’s the good news: Mathews managed to get into the end zone yesterday against the Chiefs. The bad news? He injured his hamstring and had to come out of the game during the third quarter. The speculation here is that he aggravated a preexisting issue, as he came into this one as probable with a hamstring ailment. Mathews owners will have to keep an eye on him in practice to make sure he’s available for Cincinnati on Sunday.

Zac Stacy, RB, St. Louis Rams: Stacy was downright awesome during his time on the field against the Bears yesterday. He gashed their run defense for 97 total yards and a touchdown before leaving late in the first half. Stacy sustained a head injury--which we’d imagine could very well be a concussion--and wasn’t able to return to the game.
If it is indeed a concussion that he's dealing with, he’ll have to pass the league’s protocols this week before he’s able to return to the field Sunday in San Francisco. Head injuries are tricky, so it’s impossible to tell anything at this point. Stay tuned.
Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami Dolphins: Thomas is more of a deep-league option, so he’s likely sitting on your bench if he’s even active at all in your league. He left in the third quarter of yesterday’s game against the Panthers, the victim of an ankle injury. Thomas was spotted with crutches and a boot after the game, but when asked he maintained that the ankle wasn’t broken. It could be a sprain of some sort, but we won’t know anything until the Dolphins release the X-ray results.
Jason Campbell, QB, Cleveland Browns: Hopefully you didn’t have to rely on Campbell this week, because he wasn’t able to do much--even before he got injured. The Steelers knocked him around the entire game, aggravating his existing rib injury and sending him to the sidelines with a concussion during the third quarter.
Assuming Campbell doesn’t look healthy enough to take on the Jags this week, you can bet the Browns will bring in a few free agent QBs for workouts.
Chris Ivory, RB, New York Jets: Ivory (and the entire Jets offense, really) was largely ineffective against the Ravens yesterday, and now we know why. He admitted after the game that he sprained his ankle on his first carry, and only ended up with 36 rush yards thanks to the injury. Initial X-rays were reportedly negative, and he’ll be getting an MRI. If Ivory is hurt (again), expect Bilal Powell to earn the lion’s share of the carries in New York.
